The Deputy Chief of Police acts as second-in-command of the campus university police force, serving as Acting Chief of Police/Public Safety in the absence of the Chief of Police. The primary responsibilities of this position is to supervise the daily activities of the university police/security force, to develop training programs for the university police/security personnel, and to provide liaison between the campus university police/security office and various outside agencies. This position will also assist in policy development. Other reasonable duties as assigned.
BS in Business Administration, criminal justice or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization OR equivalent educational and professional experience and training associated with relevant work. Must possess seven to ten years of relevant experience in a security/law enforcement leadership role.
Possess and maintain a New York State vehicle operator's license. Experience in complex investigations of major crimes. Experience in supervision of complex investigations of major crimes. Ability to obtain a National Security Clearance. Experience with firearms training and qualification programs.
Possess progressive managerial experience, supervisory, leadership and training experience in program development. Possess experience in the design and deployment of security systems, the conduct of vulnerability assessments and in the development and maintenance of a security organization. Possess experience with parking, special events and visitor programming.
Must be highly organized, detailed oriented, proficient in multitasking work assignments, possess excellent computer skills, communication skills, and customer service skills; database experience is required. This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks and educational requirements
