Reports To:    Site Program Director and/or Program Supervisor


We are seeking a mature, responsible individual to provide mental health services at multiple North Shore YMCA location, which may include Marblehead, Salem, Beverly, Ipswich, Gloucester, and Haverhill, Massachusetts.  This position is responsible for providing effective mental health intervention and screening  to assigned clients. Brief interventions to include 1:1 support as well as therapeutic groups and addressing behavioral health needs in a community based after school setting. Must represent Children’s Friend in a professional manner and adhere to all Children’s Friend policies and guidelines and state and federal regulations and program requirements.



  • BA  degree in psychology, social work, or related field required, MA degree preferred
  • Have a minimum of 1 year working or interning in a clinical setting, residential program, school counseling program, and/or working with youth with behavioral health needs
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Pass a standard CORI/SORI screening, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must possess basic computer skills; ability to navigate the internet and basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook, and Electronic Medical Records




  1. Mirroring the SBIRT model, the counselor will meet with youth to assess and respond to mental health needs via screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment   
  2. Provide professional development on behavioral health strategies for approximately 150 after school staff members
  3. Provide small group therapeutic support for children and identified needs   
  4. Interact effectively with all stakeholders including CFFS leadership, YMCA staff, persons served and their families
  5. Work with youth to produce measurable changes that meet treatment goals
  6. Evaluate youth progress and revise treatment plans as needed
  7. Complete all necessary documentation within required time parameters
  8. Participate effectively in regular group supervision, in monthly staff meetings, and in quality improvement initiatives
