JOB SUMMARY:
The 1st – 5th Grade Coordinator is responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development in their daily interactions with youth, their staffs’ daily interactions with youth, as well as their staff’s hourly program plans and impact programs. The 1st – 5th Grade Coordinator is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club as well as hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable for upholding the Club values.

1st -5th Programming:
The 1st – 5th Grade Coordinator is responsible for implementing the 5 key elements of positive youth development in their daily interactions with youth, their staffs’ daily interactions with youth, as well as their staff’s hourly program plans and impact programs. The 1st – 5th Grade Coordinator is expected to uphold the Club values inside and outside of the Club as well as hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable for upholding the Club values.
JOB DUTIES:
1st -5th Programming:
- Responsible for ensuring program plans are well prepared, diverse, meet deadlines and are creating high quality, fun and impactful experience for the youth in your space
- Responsible for creating and maintaining all 1st - 5th manuals, program management and timelines by deadlines.
- Ensuring daily high level programming is written in the Clubs defined impact areas, program activity sheets, whiteboards and supplies are out and prepared in advance for part-time staff
- Responsible for ensuring program & data impact workflow, program participation numbers and program expectations are met for the 1st - 5th areas and 30 minute programming and Impact programming
- Responsible for creating and/or approve master plans for each trimester, creating/approving/implementing half hour program plans by 15th of each month including assigned Saturdays and night programming, creating/implementing impact programs at least 2 per space per trimester in the teen grade space
- Recruitment, retention and outreach of youth into the programs
- Implement approved tracking techniques that will track project participation and create transparency within the project to the entire organization and community members.
- Responsible for high quality, up to date and youth specific documentation in all assigned areas of the Club.

- Provides leadership and direction to 1st - 5th volunteers to assure they develop the ability to carry out the Club’s youth development mission and that they utilize the organizations goals, objectives, and policies.
- Attending 100% of monthly all staff meetings, weekly one on one meeting with supervisory and weekly team meetings.
- Responsible for assisting with all special events at the Club.
- Available to be on the floor from 3:20 pm until scheduled work time during the school year and throughout the day during the summer, ensuring programming is occurring according to schedule, behavior management of youth and floor managing is occurring
- Manage 1st - 5th programming, 1st - 5th staff, overall 1st - 5th experience & 1st - 5th volunteers by following and implementing standards and procedures for each program.
- Responsible for making program schedules to match tracking, the numbers and programs are tracked and that they are getting entered per Club policy.
- Preparing statistical reports for areas of responsibility (such as weekly and monthly numbers).
- Responsible for learning, utilizing, and maintaining information within the Club tracking system.
- Supervise care and maintenance and purchasing needed for all project equipment, supplies, and facilities within policy and budget
- Responsible for holding biweekly team and individual one on one meetings with all direct report staff.
- Responsible for hiring, supervising and evaluating all direct report staff by the creation and implementation of 1:1 meetings, coaching, 60 day reviews, performance plans and quarterly reviews.
- Approval all program plans for all spaces, including specialized, night and Saturday programming, ensuring it is high quality, fun and engaging for members.
- Required to be on the floor assisting with floor management when members are at the Club. Responsible for handling behavioral or disciplinary issues that arise in the Traditional Unit
- . Handle all major discipline and guidance challenges that arise at the Club with members, outside of the behavioral policy.
- Responsible for managing, organizing and having successful outcomes of community collaborations and programs assigned to your area/age of expertise
- Responsible for the creation of the 1st - 5th Staff Schedule
- Responsible for 1st - 5th staff payroll process
- Responsible for assuring the Club 1st - 5th area are within budget on supplies.
- Maintaining daily communication with the Program Director and Unit Director on 1st - 5th programming
- Ensuring all 1st - 5th members and OYS are being entered and tracked in the kidstrax system
- Lead the implementation and successful completion of grants programs as assigned
- FUN
- Smile and laugh with each youth that is in your space throughout the day and hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Give high fives to all youth that enter your space and clap or cheer as members enter the space and hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Participate in all Club staff dress up and theme days and hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Ensure that all Brookings Unit staff actively led hourly programs as written on the white board.
- Ensure that all Brookings Unit full time staff are creating, implementing and leading a minimum of 2 impact programs in each space each quarter.
- SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS
- Seek out new members each day and learn something new about them. Hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Assist the Unit Director in implementing individualized youth success plans and hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- RECOGNITION
- Greet all members by their first name when they enter the Club and with ‘it is so great to see you at the Club today’! Hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Make two Club announcements over the loud speaker to recognize something great that two members did each day. Hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Ensure that all staff have a job before the Be Great Ceremony has started and that all staff are actively participating in the Be Great Ceremony.
- Ensure that all spaces are creating and hanging up documentation in the 1st-3rd grade spaces. Documentation will be updated monthly.
- OPPORTUNITIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Ensure that all Brookings Unit staff are using Great Champ Cards, Be Great Cards, Accident/Incident Reports and Teachable Moments will be used on a daily basis, will be filled out in its entirety and will follow the process that is outlined by the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings.
- Ensure that all incident reports are sent to the UD, AD and ED within an hour of the incident occurring that parents are informed immediately after the incident occurs.
- Hourly program plans will be approved before they are implemented. Responsible for ensuring hourly program plans are implemented according to the schedule and if not going successfully, on the spot fun will is implemented.
- Responsible for making contact in the community to build partnerships that lead to strengthening programming.
- Ensure that all spaces create master program plans and master staff plans for each space.
- SAFETY
- All program areas are kept cleaned and well maintained by the implemented of the opening and closing checklists and daily Club clean ups.
- When rules are broken, the emphasis is on positive reinforcement with members regarding their behavior in order to help them make positive choices in the future. When talking with youth staff get to their level to ensure eye contact can be made. Hold direct all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Confidentiality of all members’ information is kept at the Club and is not shared verbally or via social media to anyone. Hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- As a mandatory reporter, all suspected child abuse or neglect will be reported to your supervisor immediately and a report to DSS will be made. Hold all Brookings Unit staff accountable to doing the same.
- Youth boundaries are respected (youth feet stay on the ground, no hand holding or lap sitting). Hold all Brookings Unit staff to doing the same.
- All equipment in your areas will be well maintained.
- All Club policies and procedures are followed by all staff.

- Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited University
- Experience working with youth of ages Preschool through 12th Grade
- Management/Supervisory Experience
- Must be able to understand, implement, and demonstrate principals of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
- Must be able to provide leadership, on-the-spot and reflective feedback, and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they too understand and demonstrate principals of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities, per the Club trainings and values of fun, supportive relationships, recognition, opportunities and expectations, and safety.
- Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, volunteers, parents etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others, provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
- Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
- Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC, telephone, copier, etc.
