DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Serves as an Aviation System Safety Engineer/Analysts with the U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED) in support of technical teams providing engineering analysis, assessment and impact as they relate to United Kingdom AH-64 (Apache) aircraft and weapon systems. Serves as the principal consultant, advisor and technical authority on system safety related matters within AED Apache office. Provides senior level expertise in the review of all documents necessary to ensure the identification and documentation of hazards within systems or systems-of-systems for the United Kingdom AH-64 (Apache) aircraft and weapon systems. Understands all the elements of system safety engineering and documentation to include hazard analyses, hazard categorization, end effects, causal analyses, mitigation requirements identification, tracking and implementing, and residual risk assessment. Typical analyses to be reviewed are: functional analyses, hazard analyses, safety requirements analysis, hazard mitigation, safety risk assessments, reliability analyses, fault tree analyses, zonal analyses, and system residual risk assessments. Analysis based on ARP 4754, ARP 4761, MIL-STD-882, AR 385-10 and other industry standards. Establishes system safety program objectives, requirements, schedules and recommends courses of action not meet the safety requirements needed to attain aircraft airworthiness. Has an understanding of relationship of safety documentations and the role each plays in the process, and is able to complete technical reviews of safety documentation. Able to train employees in safety processes and review of safety documentation. Expect to provide briefings at the O-6 level.
Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years’ experience in system safety engineering. 15 years equivalent experience will be considered.
US Citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain and retain the designated Government clearance (Secret).
Minimum 2-years experience working in an Army Aviation Project Office.
Knowledge of the AH-64 as a pilot, engineer, or maintainer.
Experience with aircraft airworthiness (DoD or FAA)
Experience with Rotorcraft
Must have an active (Secret) clearance.
Ability to travel outside the US.
Must be able to work independently
Up to 10% to include OCONUS travel in support of AED technical assistance for the UK Apache airworthiness process.
