Orion Talent, the nation’s largest military recruiting firm, is currently recruiting transitioning or former military professionals for Customer Service Engineer positions with a British-based developer of inkjet printing and laser printing products. Our client is a subsidiary division here in the United States, and is based out of Gurnee, IL, providing inkjet and laser printing solutions for three major target markets; Packaging and Coding, Printing and Mailing, and Industrial Applications. Packaging and Coding supports the beverage, cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical, and tobacco industries; Printing and Mailing supports tickets and labels, mail solutions, print bindings, postal systems, plastics, games management; and Industrial Applications supports cable and wire labeling, construction coding, and electronics coding. Due to our client’s diverse clientele, you can find its products in all types of manufacturing environments from a pharmaceutical manufacturer, to a brewery, to a potato chip plant, to a computer microchip facility.
As a Customer Service Engineer, you will focus on providing the best field service of printing equipment to customers throughout the Indianapolis area. You will carry out preventive maintenance, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair systems at a customer’s location to minimize the downtime of a customer’s piece of equipment. You will also provide technical training on the operation, repair, and maintenance to your customers on their equipment. You will also be expected to manage your customer accounts by focusing on their needs and ensuring the company provides solutions to all of their printing needs. Helping these customers develop a sense of loyalty toward you and the company is very important. You may need to actively promote the features and benefits of the company’s product, provide feedback to the technical teams to fix an issue with a product line, or engage the sales team to help provide additional solutions for the customer. Not only are you working closely with the customers, but you are also working as a member of our client’s team. A strong working relationship with both the sales and technical teams within the company is very important to ensure that the customer is receiving the best support.
Salary: $50K-$57K (or higher DOE) target base salary + OT (average 5 hours of OT per week)
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Travel Requirements: Your territory will cover regions surrounding Indianapolis; you will leave from home daily to meet your customers. Your travel will mostly be day trips to meet your clients, but the main office is in Gurnee, IL; you will have to go there for training and furthering education. You may have to help other regions outside of this territory but that will be no more than twice a year.

You will have the option for a company vehicle that can also be used for personal transportation, but you are required to pay $100 ($46.15 per pay period) per month for that vehicle but it will include all insurance, gas, and maintenance. As a technician in the field, you will get a new vehicle every 100K miles (or 2 years), a laptop, smartphone, spare parts, PPE, and basic tools required for the job. You will also have the opportunity to seek out and sell the client on more services which can result in bonuses paid out to you. Also, up to 5 unused vacation days can be carried over into the next year for you to use.
- Our client is looking for someone who has technical aptitude and and understanding of electronics.
- Experience with both mechanical and electrical systems is required; more emphasis, however on the Mechanical side.
- You must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair office and industrial printers at client locations.
- This is a field service role; therefore, you must be personable, a good communicator, and always provide the best customer service.
- You must have good credit and a clean driving record as well.
- Must be okay with daily travel within your territory.
