Corning’s Glass Technologies segment manufactures chemically strengthened cover glass, such as Gorilla® Glass® for the consumer electronics market and glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.
This position is for a Controls Engineer for the Display Technologies Asset Protection (DTAP) Department at the Harrodsburg site.
Scope of Position:
- Provide expertise and technical support for ongoing operation and maintenance of DTAP Facilities Controls systems
- Lead capital projects related to DTAP system upgrades and/or Energy Improvement projects
- Actively participate with the Division DTAP, and contract resources (internal and external) to develop, define, and re-enforce standard equipment devices, controllers, components, and software related to Asset Protection.
- Actively participate in, and support Design Reviews for all new equipment configurations / software
- Perform the necessary rigor to ensure standard DTAP designs are included in Rebuild Appropriation Requests and installed according to the standard.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Support site operate/maintain personnel with subject matter expertise and active hands-on support as needed for operation and maintenance of all control systems and software related to DTAP governed support systems
- Gain and share knowledge of the control systems and software related to DTAP within all base business locations.
- Support and lead the DTAP objectives of standardization and rigorous change control.
- Support and provide standard equipment lists for Division Facilities equipment management.
- Support the development and maintenance of thorough design documentation based on governing codes, design standards, and department procedures.
- Lead field support teams during the installation and checkout of new technology and designs.
- Ensure inclusion of new designs into rebuild and new construction Appropriation Requests.
- Assume receivership duties for new technology and designs as they relate to DTAP Standards.
- Lead contract resources to support DTAP objectives.
- Ensure Electrical and Controls drawings are archived properly within the Division Facilities Controls organization.
- Lead and provide support during the development and training of Emergency Response Drills.
- Assist in the development of DTAP Training materials and deliver training as needed
- Ensure that updated P&ID documentation exists for all facilities services equipment and backup systems within the Plant.
- Develop and document workable Preventive Maintenance procedures for Control systems.
- Participate or sometimes lead Six-Sigma DMAIC or DESGN Performance Excellence projects.

Work Hours: Standard hours (M-F 8-5). Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation on weekends and evenings. This position requires periodic weekend team coverage.
Travel Requirements: International and domestic travel required at (less than 15%).
Required Education and Experience:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Willing to consider 10+ years of electrical/controls experience in lieu of degree.
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven experience with industrial controls, field instrumentation, HMI software, PLC code, and control platforms
- Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
- Ability to use the scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively
- Ability to translate engineering solutions to process requirements that deliver and/or improve performance criteria
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

- In depth experience with GE iFix software
- Extensive experience with other similar HMI/SCADA technologies
- Experience in glass manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles (Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Material Science)
- Experience/knowledge of utilities (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, etc.) and power distribution systems
- Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification
- Deep understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC / DESGN) methodology
