The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, Mission Support Team (MST) is seeking a highly motivated IT Security Engineer to join our distinguished team to operate and maintain a state-of-the-art ground system for the JPSS Common Ground System at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland.
The JPSS program is developing the next-generation weather satellite system. Raytheon is developing, deploying and sustaining the JPSS Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S) and the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS).
The IT Security Engineer will work operational security activities for the ground system - including execution of recurring security maintenance and compliance functions across a widely dispersed ground system. They will support the installation, configuration, and use of security solutions including security assessment scanning (Nessus), anti-malware protection (McAfee/Symantec), security information & event management (SIEM, e.g. QRadar), patch/security control implementation via automated tools like IBM Tivoli Endpoint Manager (TEM)/BigFix, data integrity (Tripwire), and Cisco/McAfee network device management (console &/or NetMRI). Submit, manage, & get approval of change requests through engineering change management boards. Manage time/priorities to meet deadlines. Communicate with other teams to coordinate work & changes effectively. Able to handle a fast-paced work environment. They will report to the JPSS Security Lead and work in a matrixed organization.
Duties can include, but not limited to:
- Execution of recurring security maintenance and compliance functions across a widely dispersed ground system
- Patch and Vulnerability identification, evaluation, remediation, and work-off/closure of security findings
- Providing recommendations on operational security approach for ongoing compliance activities, to include vulnerability scanning, compliance audits, recurring security configuration checks, and overall Certification and Accreditation (C&A) readiness
- Supporting contingency and incident response plans and exercises, in concert with Mission Operations personnel
- Interface with the government on operational security issues.
- Following established SE processes and procedures
- Reviewing and impact assessment of Engineering Change Requests (ECR)
- Perform other tasks assigned by JPSS Security Lead or MST Lead
Security Clearance Required:
Three plus years’ experience with security and C&A functions associated with space ground systems.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or commensurate professional certification.
Experience in all facets of security operations: system protection, system scanning and auditing, recurring security configuration checks and management, risk assessments, contingency/incident response, and security sustainment of a large ground system. Experience working with government customers.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with all levels of an organization, including customers, engineering organizations, IPT members, supporting functional organizations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and negotiation skills.
Experience with the Microsoft Office suite. Ability to be on-call and carry on-call cellphone during non-working hours.
Ability to work off-hour shifts and weekend shifts as needed to support ongoing operations.
Hands-on experience administering & using at least 1 of the following:
- Nessus Security Center/ACAS
- McAfee ePO
- IBM Big Fix/Tivoli Endpoint Manager (TEM)
- Certificate managements systems (Axway)
Experience with use of security operations software compliance tools.
Experience in schedule development, action item management, requirement change management and overall development and progress metrics.
Experience in preparing proposals, estimates, technical documents, and other contract deliverable items. Network administration/engineering skills on Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, ASA, & Access Control System (ACS) devices; McAfee firewalls. Systems administrator experience (Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux). COTS and FOSS patch management/deployment experience.
Security Certifications in accordance to DoD 8570 (CISSP is preferred; Security+, etc.)
Experience in preparing customer and/or management level briefings
As-required inside and outside of the Continental United States.
Normal work hours are between 8am and 5pm; however, various mission activities will require a flexible work schedule, sometimes off-hours, weekends and possibly holidays depending on mission needs.
Required Education: (including Major): BS/BA, in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics. (Preferred: Engineering Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Security)
