Under general supervision, provides assistance and support tasks to students and faculty in instructional technology courses in accordance with assignments and directions from a course instructor or other academic personnel; provides technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff in the use of instructional technology; monitors and reports student progress; maintains the instructional presence on the network; instructional technology support requires technical competence in creating and facilitating technology-enabled learning experiences, which includes an understanding of online courses, microcomputers and general technical support.
This is a very broad classification in the instructional assistance area. Positions assigned to the class of Instructional Associate perform duties to assist and support classroom instructors or other academic personnel. Specific tasks may vary depending upon the subject area and discipline to which assigned. Work is performed within a framework of established procedures which may not require the physical presence of the instructor or other academic personnel.
Positions in this class may exist in any of the instructional departments or divisions. Incumbents in the class of Instructional Associate are expected to have completed a minimum of two years of college with a major in the subject area to which their position is assigned. Recruitment to fill a position in this class should include the instructional area of assignment, such as "Instructional Associate (Art)" or "Instructional Associate (Mathematics)".
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Assist teachers with the development, demonstration, presentation, and instruction of technology-enabled courses.
b. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials for technology-enabled learning.
c. Provide basic tutoring in a variety of general subject areas.
d. Orient students and new faculty on the procedures used and technology available to facilitate learning.
e. Recommend appropriate instructional materials and technology to be used by students; develop, modify, and test instructional courses to ensure curriculum is current, accurate, and relevant in accordance with instructor's curriculum guidelines.
f. Review instructional software and provide recommendations as needed to enhance technology-enabled learning experiences.
g. Assist in planning and evaluating new software, making recommendations to faculty and management when appropriate.
h. Provide assistance to students regarding various aspects of instructional technology including technical assistance with course management systems.
i. Respond to student questions and provide information regarding resources available to students.
j. Research and troubleshoot technical problems when students, staff, and faculty have problems with the college's course management system or log-on procedures.
k. Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising student assistants.
l. Assist instructors in preparation of multimedia training/teaching materials.
m. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and priorities related to use of instructional software and equipment; ensure consistency of design, layout and integrity of content for instructional technology courses.
n. Maintain accurate records.
o. Participate on committees and attend conferences with instructional staff to exchange information on instructional technology and to remain current on course management systems.
p. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications and Physical Demands
1. Microcomputers and basic instructional and tutorial techniques to assist and promote technology-enable learning.
2. Student guidance principles and practices.
3. Community college curriculum and educational requirements.
4. Computer software and hardware utilized in instructional technology.
5. Principles and procedures of record keeping.
6. Proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation and preventative maintenance of microcomputers and related peripherals.
7. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and consideration.
8. Provide assistance and technical advice regarding course materials to faculty and students.
9. Assess student achievement and encourage student participation.
10. Work in campus network and mainframe applications; use in-depth knowledge of a variety of applicable software applications to assist, maintain, and troubleshoot instruction.
11. Respond to questions and assist students as needed.
12. Develop tutorials to assist students with technology-enabled programs and courses.
13. Navigate course management systems.
14. Maintain accurate records.
15. Work independently in the absence of supervision.
16. Oversee the work of others.
17. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
18. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
19. Plan, organize, and schedule work to meet multiple instructional program needs.
20. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic and disability backgrounds.
Education and Experience:
21. Completion of two years of college with major course work in computer applications.
22. Two years experience in an instructional setting as a tutor or in a similar position pertaining to technology-based learning experiences.
23. Or, any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
LICENSES OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions in this classification may require a valid California driver's license and/or possession of a certificate of completion from an accredited college or agency in relative to the assigned area.

Conditions of Employment
We are recruiting for two positions. These positions are full-time, categorically funded, 12-month per year, Classified positions. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Flexible schedule and weekends might be necessary to address the needs of the job duties, programs and/or students. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position based upon available funds.
Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
