Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Manufacturing Engineer, Assembly 3 to join the Manufacturing Engineering Department to support all aspects of Precision glass machining and measurement in an Aerospace and Defense production environment located in Woodland Hills, CA.
The Manufacturing Engineer, Assembly 3 will have responsibilities in the following areas:
Process Design, Process Execution and Equipment:
Designing manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for production flow, equipment installation, processing steps, machining and material flow.
Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
Integrates machine and equipment design into the factory and production conditions .
Takes ownership of the performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency. Able to investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality and sustainment.
Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and has the capability to develop those techniques.
Able to incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
Provides guidance to design engineering organization regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Candidate should demonstrate strong initiative and the desire for continuous improvement and technical growth.
Candidate will be required to interface with design engineers, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and shop floor personnel on a regular basis. Leadership, excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork are essential.
The qualified candidates must have a strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of technical principles and theories and a general knowledge of other related disciplines.
Bachelors of Science Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and a minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
Three (3) plus years of experience working in a fabrication, machining and measurement environment.
Experience with programming, setting up and operating CNC equipment.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
Familiar with measurement and metrology equipment such as CMM, Profilometer, toolmaker's microscope, drop gages.
Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and quality specifications.
Ability to read and understand basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
Ability to independently set up jobs and process them to specification.
Possessing good written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable and able to work well as part of an integrated team including machinists, engineering peers and principal level engineers.
Proficiency in MS Word and Excel and intermediate experience with Power Point.
Self-starter and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment.
U.S. Citizenship is a requirement.
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
Experience with glass or glass ceramic machining, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
Experience with diamond tools in glass machining.
Experience with designing tools and fixtures for holding and machining parts.
Experience in programming CMM for new dimensional requirements.
