Responsible to manage all aspects of material flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all inventories, including all transactions, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving, and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time. The Materials Manager is responsible and accountable for the quality, safety and productivity of the department and will collaborate with Finance, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Quality to ensure the achievement of departmental goals.
Essential Job Functions
Develop, implement and manage planning process that incorporates make versus buy, capacity planning, and scheduling, inventory, material and cost elements to optimize inventory levels that allow for lean manufacturing.
Performs analysis of Customer demand, sales forecasts and historical material usage to develop and execute build to order and build to forecast plans.
Responds to individual requests from within the company to meet specific customer requirements
Collaborates with cross-functional business teams to develop the best economic strategy for production planning to support customer demand.
Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support inventory forecasting, purchasing, and material control.
Establishes and supervises production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, tracking progress of production and reviewing factors that affect schedules.
Direct all Demand Flow activities consistent with established practices and Lean manufacturing business strategies for material movement, handling, and transactions in line with site and corporate lean inventory targets.
Implements and manages an inventory control system capable of identifying discrepancies in inventory counts and taking corrective action to guard against inconsistencies in the future.
Plan, implement, audit, and monitor a regular regimen of physical inventory.
Collaborates with Purchasing, Engineering and Quality to ensure materials are available when needed to support production schedules. to support production schedules.
Prepares and maintains materials budget and expenditures.
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining, and aligning company polices that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
Manage the distribution and logistics functions including shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, and freight.
Manage employee talent and development. Coordinate performance reviews, recruitment/hiring, technical training, salary adjustments, corrective actions, and employee relations. Maintain results through coaching, counseling of staff and setting meaningful and measurable goals. Provide growth, training, and development opportunities to employees.
Education and Skills Required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Math, Business Administration or related field required.
Five (5) years production planning, inventory, production support, logistics or related experience in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to manufacturing business systems, materials management, purchasing, and cost accounting.
Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Working knowledge of Material Requirements Planning systems, parameters and theory.
Working knowledge and demonstrated success of lean supply chain logistics.
Experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
Must possess excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills to effectively utilize ERP systems and Microsoft Office products
