The VANY Harbor Healthcare System seeks qualified applicants to fill a vacancy as Medical Records Technician in theTumor Registrar - Cancer Registry - Full Time
The Cancer Registrar abstracts all reportable cancer cases, ensures the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of data collection and appropriate reporting in accordance with regulatory standards and meets departmental productivity standards.
Provides abstracting services for the cancer program at the NYHHCS VA Hospital; Responsible for the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of data collection including case finding, abstracting, and follow-up activities of the Cancer Registry. Maintains data integrity and confidentiality of the registry. Performs edits on abstracts and corrects errors as appropriate. Accomplishes performance improvement functions through data collection and documentation review. Assists with organizing Cancer Conferences, and as needed with other programs and projects related to the cancer program.
Maintains ongoing knowledge of CoC standards. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments. Works toward certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar by the National Cancer Registrar’s Association. Responsible for additional assignments as appropriate.
Qualified candidates must have Associates degree required; Bachelors preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of disease processes and anatomy, oncology, attention to detail and accuracy. Computer background with experience in databases and spreadsheets
Ability to work independently, must have excellent interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively, verbally and written.
