Cosma Body Assembly Michigan a division of Magna International manufactures underbody and chassis components for cars and light trucks. Our facility utilizes automated weld assembly manufacturing processes.
The Assembly Area Leader (Production Supervisor) ensures all requirements associated with the successful fabrication of product are met. This is facilitated through Team Leaders and Production Associates. The Area Leader oversees production operations, and supports Management, Team Leaders, and Production Associates by acting as a liaison in matters regarding policy application, employee relations, safety, and continuous improvement for processes and productivity. This position carries direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibility.
Establishes and maintains effective communications/interaction with departments, including engineering, quality assurance, material control, maintenance, and human resources to achieve established targets. Plans, directs the utilization of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results. Understands, compiles and organizes operational data to implement improvements by working with teams, using lean tools, and problem solving methods. Monitors/adjusts inventory balances, investigates inventory problems, and implements solutions. Coordinates preventative maintenance with Maintenance and Production Planning. Monitors and completes required Layered Process Audits (LPAs). Coordinates quarantine material/parts/scrap upon disposition by Quality Assurance. Completes assigned Total Productive Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance on assembly equipment. Ensures all assembly equipment running 100% of allowed time Assists with changeovers on equipment. Ensure both production requirements and quality demands are met. Follows the escalation process. Ensures completion and effectiveness of corrective actions using various problem-solving techniques; e.g., 8D, daily feedback, 5-Why, Kepner-Tregoe, etc. Ensures that all necessary record keeping including employee records, requisitions and documentation is initiated and completed in a timely manner. Understands Cosma Body Assembly Michigan's (CBAM's) Employee Handbook in order to advise associates. Ensures materials are labeled correctly and stored in their designated or appropriate areas. Accountable for meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Continuous Improvement (CI) objectives. Monitors work/stock centers to ensure a continuous supply of material, proper stock segregation and rotation. Participates in the development of department action plans and leads team to achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives in alignment with CBAM's business plan. Supports budget planning, responsible to meet the financial targets. Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery. Assists in the development of procedures and methods to improve safety, quality, timing, cost and motivation. Makes decisions in the best interest of the department, CBAM and Cosma/Magna. Ensures confidentiality in all matters pertaining to both business and employee relations. Participates in department meetings to communicate safety, quality, timing, cost and motivation information and to promote involvement in issues affecting employees and/or their work areas. Participates in manpower requirements planning, overtime scheduling, capacity planning to meet future objectives. Directs and distributes the work for their area of responsibility. Completes Payroll activities for employees. Ensures fairness, and encourages and participates in the Open Door Process for employee relation issues. Observes, understands, teaches, coaches and mentors direct reports for enhancement of knowledge, skills and succession planning. Effectively builds and fosters high performing teams Conducts investigations of all non-conformance to Company polices/procedures/rules/regulations and applies the appropriate corrective action. Conducts performance reviews as required and ensures performance reviews are completed for all employees. Ensures employees are trained or certified, as required and participates in training programs as required. Ensures suppliers are performing work safely Works with HR to return employees to work under the Return-to-Work (R-T-W). Complies with Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001). Complies and ensures all Health and Safety procedures and programs are in accordance with OSHA, and followed. Utilizes verbal and written communication skills, maintains professionalism, and keeps work area clean and organized.
Knowledge and Education
2-year Associates or Technical degree in Production/Operations Management or related field; vocational/trade school program certification in Manufacturing, Production or related field; and/or equivalent work related experience.
Minimum 5 years manufacturing/operations experience with a minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role. Experience in operational improvements using Lean methods and techniques. Must have thorough knowledge of general office procedures including PC and LAN use. Must be proficient in relevant computer software and program use.
Skills and Competencies
Experienced in Lean Implementation (standardized work), 5S, value stream mapping, A3 Method, etc. Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and drive team to reach targets. Experience with recognized problem solving techniques; i.e., black belt, Kepner-Tregoe, etc. Familiarity with welded sheet metal assemblies. Excellent math skills with the ability to apply to costs and analyze data. Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills. Strong listening skills as well as written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated maturity of judgment and leadership skills. Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment in order to meet customer requirements. Must be able to interact effectively with other team members. Must be able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact.
Production, Automotive Welded Assembly
This is for an off-shift position (2nd or 3rd).
