About the Job
Summary:
The QC Lab Operator tests production samples according to outlined methods along with any additional testing requirements. Will determine the acceptability of finished product by comparison to a given set of standards. Responsible for recording results and obtaining any requested sample requirements. Also responsible for reviewing production requirements regarding coding and coil tag identification.
Essential Job Functions:
*Communicates verbally and in writing with other departments of the plant concerning plant operations and specifications of coils
*Performs and interprets physical test required for product
*Operates Tooke gauge
*Performs Weigh Strip Weigh procedures
*Performs other testing as required with specified equipment in and communicates film and appearance adjustments with Coater Operators
*Understands Light Booth and Visual Color to Standards
*Collects and records data as directed by management
*Monitors PMT with Ircon and able to read heat tapes
*Determines the acceptability of finished product by comparison to a given set of standards
*Analyzes results, immediately takes appropriate action to ensure on line production quality
*Assists in visual inspection and exit section line operation when necessary
*Inputsline tensions, oven heats and oven damper settings according to standard line set-ups
*Uses equipment that may require a high degree of coordination and precise adjustments
*Maintains visual acuity to use various quality control equipment to perform tests of product
*Access, input, and receive information from a computer
*Read and comprehend instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes, and/or procedural changes used in the area
*Maintains clean and organized work area according to 6S standards
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
*Uses shear tool to trim steel coils
*Places scrap metal into appropriate receptacles
*Actively participates in adhering to plant housekeeping requirements by picking up trash, sweeping work areas, and returning materials and equipment to their proper locations
*Participates in squeegee roll and bearing changes, in tank cleaning, spray bar header & nozzle cleaning, and other line upkeep as needed
*Assists maintenance (when specialized maintenance skills are not required) with line repairs
*Use computer to enter and retrieve information
*Maintains regular and on time attendance
*Adheres to all safety and work rules
*Adheres to job specific SOPs
*Assists and trains new employees
*Maintains regular and on-time attendance
*Reads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes and/or procedural changes
*Performs miscellaneous assignments as directed
Critical Demands:
*Repetitive use of hands to press buttons and operate line controls
*Occasional twisting of the neck and trunk
*Sufficient physical movement in order to safely operate complex, high speed equipment
*Experience and ability to make quick decisions when supervision is not readily available
*Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
*Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
*Reach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job duties
*Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, work rules, etc.
*Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions
*Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
*Walk or stand for extended periods of time
*Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
*Ascend and descend stairs to reach work areas
*Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
*Communicate with other employees verbally or in writing
Tools and Equipment Used:

Work Environment:
*Periodic temperature extremes, including temperatures over 90 degrees
*Some work areas located on 2nd or 3rd floor
*Concrete or asphalt floors
*Exposure to high levels of noise
*Exposure to dust
*Periodic exposure to fumes from paints and chemicals used in coating processes
*Use of respirator required while performing some job functions
Job Requirements:
*High school level reading and writing, visual acuity to read labels, meters, gauges, documents and instructions
*Six months of work experience in an industrial or warehouse environment with forklifts
*Ability to safely operate small manual and electric hand tools
*Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays
*Must be available to work any shift
