The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified Registered Nurses (RN’s) to work in a correctional setting on the 3PM to 11PM shift. The MSO provides 24-hour care to inmates and detainees at Middlesex Jail & House of Correction in Billerica, MA. Applicants must be able to work on any shift (7-3; 3-11; and 11-7 when necessary) and on weekends and holidays. The position is classified within a collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities to include but not limited to: Under the direct Supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA) or designee in the MSO Health Services Unit (HSU). Ability to work within a correctional setting, complying with all institutional policies/rules regarding safety and security. Dispenses medication as directed; makes appropriate entries into infirmary log; confers with other shifts regarding patients and other infirmary activities; accounts for medication, supplies and equipment located in work area; assists physicians with all in-house clinical duties; performs emergency services as necessary. Ability to keep accurate records, equipment inventory and generate timely reports as required. Must be able to participate in professional development activities both on and off-site. Performs other work as required by management.
Working Conditions: Working in a correctional facility on a 24/7 basis; work on varied shifts (7/3; 3/11; 11/7), weekends, nights, holiday and are subject to being forced to work over 8 hours depending on operational needs within the MSO HSU. May encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders; may be required to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress; stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; may be required to work alone in an isolated area; may be required to lift and carry heavy objects; may be required to restrain inmates/detainees in accordance with policy. May work under exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Salary:Starting annual salary from $64,700 plus additional monetary benefits are included per the collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications: Must have a current RN license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Must have an Associate’s degree. A minimum of three (3) years of RN experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Prior experience in a correctional or similar setting preferred. Must have strong organizational and time management skills and be able to work under pressure on time sensitive projects. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidates shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency. Must be a resident of Massachusetts and a US citizen. Must also have an active valid driver’s license and the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
