To continue our growth, we have an excellent opportunity for a Safety Coordinator at our manufacturing facility in Horn Lake, MS. This position will be responsible for facilitating the continuous safety improvement efforts at the Rite-Hite - Horn Lake manufacturing facility and our sales & service operations on the East Coast.
The safety coordinator position establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment by performing the following duties personally or through Supervisors and Managers at the Horn Lake manufacturing plant and with our field sales and service business, Arbon Equipment, throughout the the Eastern seaboard.
Below are some essential duties and responsibilities for the position:
Working with Corporate Safety, Director of Manufacturing, and HR Manager to develop annual Strategic Safety Plan
Makes studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
Formulates general safety programs, policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
Formulates general environmental programs, policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and regulations.
Develop and maintain a health and safety-oriented work philosophy among employees.
Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, fire prevention and safety programs.
Inspects facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
Trains and oversees various site safety and ergonomics committees.
Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.
Responsible for managing safety budget.
Work with company insurance provider to perform the applicable industrial hygiene sampling as needed.
Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, law suits, and insurance investigations.
Compiles and submits accident reports and recordkeeping required by regulatory agencies.
Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on overall incurred dollars, lost employee time, and cut back on unjust claims.
Effectively manages work comp claims by working with the insurance company, injured employee, clinics, and managers from the opening of the claim and until the claim closes.
Effectively manages auto and general liability claims by working with the insurance company, employee(s) involved, and managers form the opening of the claim until the claim closes
Devises, supervises, and coordinates safety training programs, media, and safe operating procedures which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.
Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
Maintains safety and work comp files and records.
Responsible for executing and supporting the quality 6S system and procedures in the effort for continuous improvement.
Develop, promote, and support Rite Hite SAFE initiative and any other awareness campaigns
Coordinates the safety shoe program, prescription safety glasses program, and any other safety related programs.
Assists in field audits and the promotion of a safe and healthy work environment on the distribution side of the business by working closely with the Corporate Safety Supervisor, location managers and employees.
Maintain Arbon 3rd party contractor prequalifications on a timely basis and in good/passing status.
Conducts job safety analysis and risk assessments on assigned tasks and jobs
Coordinates safety philosophy, policies, and programs with all safety personnel to ensure consistency throughout company operations.
Coordinate and instruct OSHA 10 and 30 hour construction and general industry classes for managers, supervisors, technicians, and employees.
The successful candidate will combine a Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related field, along with related experience such as a safety internship. This position requires significant (20%) overnight travel. Must be detail oriented, have good communication skills, and be able to work cooperatively with line managers and employees to effectively address safety concerns while maintaining production and customer service. We will consider hiring someone on as an intern to allow them to gain experience and possibly move into the full time role.
