Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards; create and maintain documentation
Perform daily system and security monitoring, verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and integrity checked regularly
Provide support to various end user and developer groups by request. Investigate/troubleshoot issues.
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required; maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
Adhere to firm Change Management, Problem Management policies and familiarity with ITIL or other formalized IT operations foundations
10+ years relevant IT experience
5+ years of experience in the financial industry
Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux+, e.g., CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Experience installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting current and legacy Linux servers and desktops (RPM-based)
Solid knowledge of Linux (RHEL, CentOS) operating system internals, file system structures, and machine architectures. Performance tuning of Enterprise servers is necessary. Thorough understanding of Active Directory principals, management and best practices as it relates to access controls with Linux systems
Enterprise Storage Systems, iSCSI & Fiber Channel Switching, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies. Solid knowledge of LVM, SAN, NAS, RAID, EXT3 & 4
Experience with the following technologies: HP servers, Hitachi storage, Cisco, VMWare, AWS, Google, Azure, Ansible, Splunk, Science Logic, Centrify, IPAM, Confluence, Sharepoint, SCCM
Understanding of advanced networking concepts and protocols (IP addressing/subnet masks, DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc.) and network diagnostic tools (protocol analysis with tcpdump/Wireshark)
Basic familiarity with Cisco NX-OS, switching versus routing and VLANs, network load balancing
Detailed knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) schemes, schedules, and testing methodologies, storage data replication, snapshot, RAID, or data movement software
Thorough understanding of systems and network protocols (LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Kerberos, NFS, TCP/IP, SMTP, IMAP, FTP, SSH/SCP, HTTP, SSL,) and UNIX/Linux system internals (kernel, drivers, file systems, virtual memory).
Proficiently with Python, bash or other scripting languages
