The Software Engineer in Test will join the Platform QA department and be fully integrated with an engineering team tasked with driving FactSet towards fully automated continuous testing. Your team will work directly with internal consumers in Engineering, Product Development and Quality Assurance to understand their greatest challenges in adopting that paradigm and solve them through building stable and performant infrastructure and services. This role is a hybrid of a software developer and tester with an emphasis on test automation infrastructure. It will be a coding-heavy, hands-on technical role where you will be teaming up directly with development teams, working within their codebases and building new automated test infrastructure alongside them. Your team will directly lead R&D efforts and advocate for technology and organization changes that will ensure a phenomenal experience for our clients.
We’re seeking a talented Software Engineer who is passionate about automation, stability and performance. This high visibility role will require strong technical contribution, communication and organizational skills. You will directly support your team’s mission by performing deep dives on infrastructure and application-side code, researching modern automated testing systems and building practical solutions that enable fully automated continuous testing at FactSet. You will act as a technical resource to the organization by participating in training, presenting topicals and sharing documentation and demos. You will have the opportunity to become knowledgeable about FactSet’s diverse platform of applications, infrastructure and services, including working directly within the CID, Atlas and Online pipelines.
About Platform QA
Platform QA is a department in Quality Assurance which is responsible for testing FactSet’s core infrastructure catalog of components and services on PC, web and mobile. In addition, this department is also responsible for providing centralized testing infrastructure, tooling and standards across all of FactSet’s products and services. Platform QA works alongside engineers, product developers and other QA professionals to ensure that FactSet’s clients have a consistent, stable and performant experience.
Collaborating with Strategic Business Units and infrastructure teams to design and build and integrate fully automated continuous testing infrastructure and services.
Leading your team through researching and implementing modern test methodologies across FactSet through collaboration and integration with Engineering, Product Development and Quality Assurance.
Building infrastructure and services to support fully automated continuous testing across application and infrastructure products.
Acting as a technical mentor for your teammates and peers across the company.
Developing a deep understanding of FactSet’s infrastructure and application codebases.
Owning the process of transforming high-level visions into concrete, measurable deliverables.
Proactively communicating with stakeholders to understand requirements, timelines, etc…
Use metrics and key performance indicators to develop a high peforming team culture within QA and Engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Strong coding skills and a history of project success.
A desire to learn and evangelize modern testing methodologies & frameworks.
Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to make tactical decisions and develop strategic plans.
Desire to learn modern technologies across PC, web and mobile.
Capability to work on multiple tasks with shifting and sometimes conflicting priorities.
Deep experience in software development and how to test software for bugs.
Able to work effectively with other QA staff, developers and members of other departments to develop effective and efficient solutions.
Experience working within Agile development environments.
Knowledge of continuous integration, testing and delivery systems.
Knowledge of PC/web/mobile automated testing frameworks (Selenium, Protractor, etc…)
PC-side development experience (C/C++/C#).
Mobile development experience including native and touch-enabled web content.
Experience with common open source build systems and associated tooling.
Ability to deal with ambiguity and flexibility to work collaboratively with others in a dynamic environment.
Strong QA skills including planning, exploratory testing, defect reporting and troubleshooting.
