Essential Job Duties:
The primary purpose of this position is to manage a staff of 12-16 housekeeping staff members who apply established specialized health care cleaning and disinfectant procedures and standards for a full-scale small-animal veterinary hospital. This position must undergo specialized training such as IEHA (International Executive Housekeepers Association) front line two day program specializing in health care services and training on cross-contamination for the hospital. This position requires (training will be provided if needed) knowledge of infection control protocol, AALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation for Laboratory Animal Care International, providing state inspection for vet schools). This position must be able to enforce and train employees on disinfection protocols and processes for cleaning medical spaces including passing any seeding performed in their area. This position is also responsible for ensuring that cross contamination and infection control protocols are administered in accordance with health care regulations. The position is required to monitor the workflow of employees moving from one area to another without spreading infections, and a thorough knowledge of cleaning zones and the ability to operate non-standard equipment/machinery such as a central vac system, automatic trash compactors and the a riding scrubber (a.k.a., the Chariot). This position has the responsibility for general cleaning, floor care, repairing light fixtures, minor building repairs, housekeeper instruction and labor allocation, customer relations, and budgetary responsibility.
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require Certification or eligibility for Certification.
Departmental Required Skills:
Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and the general public. Must be able to follow instructions and other communications regarding assignments and other matters. Requires the ability to communicate verbally and well as in writing. Requires knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, in addition to the skills to operate a computer and projector. Requires knowledge of computer-based training modules (OJT). Required to learn unit Standard Operating Procedures, Facilities Operations and University Policies and Procedures. Requires skill in assessing staff's knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to work comfortably around animals, animal waste, and blood borne products. Requires knowledge of proper healthcare inspection (JCOHA/AAALAC) and healthcare environment procedures, chemicals and equipment. This includes specialized knowledge of established health care cleaning and disinfectant procedures and standards for a small animal veterinary hospital; as well as the use of specialized equipment for these tasks.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Someone with a minimum of three year experience performing housekeeping duties in a healthcare environment. Prefer knowledge of APPA cleaning standards. Undergraduate degree in business, human resource or related field.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Driver's License required. NCDL within 60 days.

The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2, 240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
