As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will operate, setup, and maintain multiple additive manufacturing systems to support Blue Origin’s launch vehicle programs. You will share in the team’s impact, moving the needle with additively manufactured spaceflight hardware. You will support continuous improvement, automation, and new process development. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
The Machine Operator position serves an essential role in the Additive Manufacturing team, conducting the operation and maintenance of both additive manufacturing machinery and ancillary equipment. The Machine Operator position, being very hands-on, requires great attention to detail, in order to provide critical insight into the daily equipment functions that may not be well-understood by the rest of the operations and design teams.
+ Operate, maintain, and improve additive manufacturing machines following a standardized workflow that maximizes part quality, machine up-time and production throughput.
+ Execute loading/unloading of machine raw materials, and other machinery and equipment consumables.
+ Understand, follow, and continuously improve upon process documentation, and conduct other activities which promote defect-free products, configuration control, and traceability.
+ Initiate, monitor, and complete builds on various additive machines (spanning numerous technologies), and materials.
+ Remove support materials from additively manufactured parts with meticulous attention-to-detail.
+ Diagnose, maintain, and/or repair machinery and equipment; expertise in this area is expected to critically aid improving these processes, and maintenance schedules to minimize down-time, and maximize part quality.
+ Identify and report off-nominal processes and part-defects, with clear and concise documentation and communication to appropriate engineering personnel.
+ Meet and attempt to exceed quality, and schedule expectations through clear communication.
+ Track consumables, supplies, and raw materials, and actively maintain ownership of related purchasing activities.
+ Maintain and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and proactively identify any related shortcomings.
+ Identify job hazard analysis (JHA) shortcomings and aid in their authorship.
+ Practice safe work place techniques.
+ An attitude of world-class quality, attention-to-detail, and dedication to the rigors necessary to pursue of human-space-flight goals.
+ Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, attention-to-detail, and, process ownership.
+ 1-3 years of hands-on additive manufacturing experience
+ Demonstrated ability to adhere to rigorous schedule constraints
+ Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
+ Training or experience working with metal additive manufacturing machines
+ Experience in an R&D environment, preferably in aerospace, medical devices, or other engineered products
+ Experience in a small company and/or startup environment
