The Advanced Systems and Technology group has an opening for a highly motivated individual to originate, plan, coordinate, and conduct experimental and applied research and development activities pertaining to advanced, closed environment life support equipment and energy storage systems. The successful candidate will work in a cross-functional team environment that includes representatives from the business development and engineering communities with goals to expand the departments technology base and product portfolio in the areas of: catalysis, adsorption, and other chemical processes; thermal management; and electrochemical hardware.
Additional responsibilities include:
Providing written and oral technical support and budgetary estimates for proposal activities supporting new technology initiatives.
Preparing accurate, well-written technical reports for internal and external customer.
Preparing and presenting project/program results to internal and external customers.
Collecting, analyzing and interpreting test data from test hardware/test systems.
The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills, be capable of working in a diverse team environment and recognize contributions from all its members, demonstrate flexibility in job assignments to address shifting priorities, and be well organized.
Minimum of 10 years in pertinent space life support design. Candidate should have a solid understanding of thermodynamics of mechanical, electrical and chemical systems as well as a working knowledge of heat transfer, fluid flow and chemical bed sizing. Knowledge of space life support and supporting crewed NASA programs is a plus.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or US Person must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
This job is considered a sensitive position in accordance with NASA Guidelines. The selected candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA's regulation subpart 1823.5 Drug-Free Workforce
- BS Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, advanced technical degree preferred
