APPLICATION ENGINEER III
Summary of Role
Experienced Applications Engineer on moderate to advanced complex customer process solutions. Operates independently determining proper design and approach for solving customer requirements. May direct developing engineer.
Working primarily with the direct sales team, reviews customer requirements on medium to large complex projects, determines appropriate process solutions by performing calculations using standard tools. Selects appropriate equipment / materials to meet customer needs and to develop project costing. Working with Drafters, creates drawings (preliminary general arrangements, process flow diagrams (PFD's), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's)) as required for the application. Generates customer proposals utilizing standard tools, seeks and gains appropriate approval levels. Effectively communicates solution to internal and external customers. Determines and understands risk associated with work product. Provides mentoring/training to other engineers on business processes and technical applications. Works with laboratory for bench and pilot test protocols for process designs to validate system performance projections and guarantees as applicable. Prepares and delivers technical presentation on selected subjects. Develops project Handover Packages and turnover project documentation to the execution team. Provides process support to the operations team during project execution. Complies with Evoqua Procedures and Work Instructions applicable to the AE department.
This position will provide applications engineering and sales support for the development of capital equipment proposals for the Integrated Solutions & Services Segment with a focus on the Heavy Industry Division of Evoqua Water Technologies LLC (Evoqua). Evoqua's Heavy Industry Division provides process water and wastewater solutions to the following markets in North America
- Chemical Processing (CPI)
- Hydrocarbon Refining (HPI)
- Mining & Metals
- Pulp & Paper
- Oil & Gas
The Heavy Industry Divison provides process solutions and services, including integrated equipment design, supply, installation, and operation for industrial clients. Treatment systems focus on industrial process water and wastewater including raw water, discharge, recycle/reuse and complex water treatment systems, for customers in target industrial markets.
Experience in a variety of water treatment processes is required, including:
- Process water treatment processes, including clarification, media filtration, carbon absorption, softening, and specialty media(s).
- Membrane treatment processes, including micro-filtration, ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis.
- Inorganic treatment processes, such as low-level metals treatment, oily wastewater treatment, advanced oxidation processes, etc.
- Working Knowledge of Organic Treatment Processes.
Advanced knowledge of business tools, processes and procedures. Ability to conduct and understand water quality projections. Advanced competency in multiple standard equipment platforms and their employment. Thorough understanding of common components and their application. Able to execute complex tasks with limited guidance. Effectively collaborates with other disciplines in a team environment. Solid understanding of the sales process and how organizational role influences outcome. Solid understanding of financial principals related to proposals, costing, business outcome and risk mitigation. Solid understanding of contractual terms and conditions. Advanced ability to develop execution strategy while mitigating business risk. Possesses excellent communications skills and is able to effectively present technical information in a customer setting.
Qualifications and Experience
This position requires the following qualifications and experience:
- Minimum of a BS in Chemical Engineering with a preference for a MS in Chemical Engineering. Other disciplines considered based on experience.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in water treatment industry involving process design and equipment specification.
- Thorough knowledge of water treatment processes.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Leadership of and participation on multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Business travel (5 to 20 percent) as required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is preferred.
