Job Summary: Under general direction administers and enforces the County's Land Disturbing Activities Ordinance and codes. Reviews site development plans for compliance with state and county ordinances regarding land disturbance, trees, buffers, landscapes and soil erosion control, including approval or denial of plans, inspection of sites, and performing enforcement measures when necessary. Inspects planting of trees, landscapes and buffers, the grading of finished lots and the installation of water quality best management practices. Ensures that compliance of sidewalk, handicap ramps and crossings meet ADA standards. Plans and directs tree pruning, removal and maintenance activities on County-owned properties. Assists in developing, revising and updating County ordinances regarding land disturbance, trees, buffers, landscapes and soil erosion control. Advises engineers, architects, other professionals and the general public on professional tree care, maintenance and urban forestry issues. Performs site inspections for all commercial, industrial, single and multi-family residential development process and prior to the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, urban forestry, or related field is required; supplemented by two (2) year(s) of experience in site inspection, code enforcement, landscape design, tree care or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain the following certifications: State of Georgia Registered Forester, International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist, Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level II Certified Plan Reviewer. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Note: During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
