GENERAL DESCRIPTIONPerforms attorney work for the Child Support Division. Work involves representing the statersquo;s interest in judicial and administrative matters, and providing legal advice, consultation and technical assistance to the Child Support Program and staff. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSRepresent the State of Texas at legal proceedings to locate, establish, enforce, modify or terminate court orders for child support and medical support.Represents the State of Texas in administrative hearingsProvides legal advice, consultation and technical assistance to the Child Support ProgramDevelops and delivers trainingPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAAG IIEducation: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degreeLicensed as an attorney by the State of TexasMember in good standing with the State Bar of TexasKnowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family CodeSkill in legal writing, mediation, and negotiationSkill in serving as a trial lawyer, preparing sound opinions, conducting investigations and performing legal researchSkill in using a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrievalSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%Experience: One year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Full-time legal experience as a licensed attorneyAAG IIIAll minimum qualifications for an AAG IExperience: Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Full-time legal experience as a licensed attorneyAAG IVAll minimum qualifications for an AAG IExperience: Three years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Full-time legal experience as a licensed attorneyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Two yearsrsquo; experience in handling Family Law casesJury Trial ExperienceExperience in handling a high volume legal practiceOther Language: Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak SpanishTo apply for a job with the OAG, submit a completed State of Texas job application through the OAG Job Postings Page.
