ResponsibilitiesThe Associate Buyer/Planner will perform the function of both the buyer of goods/services and the production planner, serving as a floater to assist and fill-in where required. Responsibilities include materials procurement and the implementation/maintenance of the planning demand management function. For the buyer position, the role purpose is to obtain quality purchased goods/services on-time, at a competitive price by placing purchase orders with approved vendors by: •Leading the sourcing process for items required for manufacture in the production cells •Selecting, qualifying, monitoring and expediting suppliers and processes •Purchasing production materials, tooling, and equipment •Evaluating and developing supplier capabilities and processes •Performing targeted costing activities and total landed cost analysis •Negotiating and implementing supplier contracts and agreements •Problem solving and securing the consistent flow of materials and services •Being responsible for the overall supplier performance related to quality, cost, and delivery •Applying engineering, manufacturing, and quality expertise to reduce material costs, meet program requirements, and problem solve issues with purchased materials •Performing supplier audits and surveys for sourcing selection. Sources new technologies and methods of manufacture. •Working closely with product engineering teams to investigate and support required technologies and suppliers to support existing and new program launches. •Working closely with the global commodity purchasing teams to establish shared inventory information and global supplier networks. •Working to reduce overall inventory and set up programs to maintain less in-house inventory (establishment maintenance of supplier stocking programs) •Meet all internal and regulatory requirements •Providing support services to planning, shipping/receiving, and other departments as required For the planning portion of the position, the role purpose is to coordinate all activities associated with product manufacturing by ensuring that sufficient materials and instructions are issued to the floor and estimating future capacity and delivery capabilities by performing the following activities: •Review/schedule and respond to new business and change orders. •Enter, change and release manufacturing job orders to the production cells •Interact and work with Sales and Marketing to understand and respond to demand drivers by obtaining sales forecasts •Develop and implement inventory reduction strategies •Schedule and coordinate the flow of work within and between manufacturing departments to ensure accurate production schedules •Provide support services to other departments as required
QualificationsKnowledge, experience & capabilities •Technical/Engineering including blue print reading skills, Purchasing, Planning, Inventory Management, Scheduling, APICS certification, CPIM a plus, Six Sigma certification, use of ERP system, Excel (pivot tables, etc.) •Technical Engineering Degree and/or a BA/BS degree and/or (10) years of experience with scheduling/planning production coordination in a manufacturing and supply chain environment •Technical background as noted above (blue print/routing/specification reading and comprehension, supply chain fundamentals, integrity, continuous learning and flexibility, effective communication, interpersonal skills, creativity
