The Surface Audio team is currently recruiting an audio engineer with a passion for technology to deliver world-class audio solutions for tablet computers. As a member of the audio team, you will own the audio system for a Surface program, including the definition of features and customer experience, selection of speakers and microphones and their placement, audio codecs and processing for audio input and output. Applicants will work concurrently with other Surface team members from product conception to production. The broader product team consists of: Program Managers, Industrial Designers, Acoustics Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Process Engineers, Manufacturing and Test Engineers as well as with other Microsoft internal and external partners. **Responsibilities** The selected candidate needs to have excellent communication and teamwork skills and will own the audio subsystem for fast paced programs from concept to product delivery. Responsibilities include the design and the delivery of audio systems consisting of audio capture, render and processing pipelines. The candidate will also contribute to audio technology roadmaps and planning; maintain knowledge of trends in micro-speaker, microphone technologies and multi-microphone configurations; evaluate and tune audio processing for noise suppression, beam forming, AEC and enhanced output rendering methods. **Qualifications** Demonstrated experience in delivering audio solutions for high-volume consumer electronics products. Ability to deliver optimized solutions with multiple constraints of size, cost, performance and external application partner requirements. Knowledge of HW and SW audio architecture, including audio capture, processing and rendering algorithms and implementation methods. Knowledge of audio modeling software and industry standard audio test methods and equipment. Knowledge of miniature speaker capabilities and limitations. Knowledge of microphone capabilities and limitations. Familiarity with audio codecs used in consumer devices. Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-group and cross-culture collaboration. Demonstrated ability to perform in a high-paced product development environment. Willing to travel internationally up to 15%. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with offshore manufacturers. Audio electronic design, layout and debug experience Knowledge of SoC/DSP/APO audio pipelines and architecture. 3+ years of experience delivering consumer audio solutions. Experience developing and implementing audio processing algorithms Knowledge of Windows audio pipeline. Ability to develop models of speaker enclosures and microphone configurations. Experience solving acoustic noise, buzz and rattle problems in consumer products Audio tuning experience optimizing performance across HW and SW audio components Audio system design experience, optimizing across the audio chain Education: A BS in Electrical, Audio engineering or Physics is required or related degree with demonstrated working experience as an audio engineer.
