Directs the development, coordination and administration of Cancer Institute research policies, services and programs for Health System Service Lines. Oversees, evaluates and ensures efficient and effective operational performance as related to research. Participates in the development and implementation of Service Line's financial and strategic planning activities around research. Facilitates quality improvement initiatives and integration of Health System values.
- Strategic Planning
Researches, develops and coordinates the implementation of strategic plans, policies and standards regarding research to include maximizing market share, growth strategies, expense control, space allocation, and technological equipment and information systems purchases.
Promotes quality and productivity improvements through involvement in the development of improved research procedures, process innovations and changes which support the strategic direction of the service line.
Plans and implements the utilization of information resources to support the strategic direction and operations of research in the service line.
- Research Operations
Oversees, evaluates and ensures efficient and effective operational performance.
Reviews comprehensiveness of the research scope within the Service Line on an on-going basis and develops strategies for program adaption to market changes.
Coordinates, develops and executes public relations and communication programs for the Health System's internal and external audiences.
Directs the research, development and implementation of marketing policies, plans and procedures which capitalize on current and future research market opportunities.
Directs the management and development of professional contacts and community support through identifying and developing new research initiatives and opportunities.
Evaluates and directs the assessment of services and development of new research programs, sponsors, and research projects on an on-going basis and supports strategies for program adaptation to market changes.
Identifies new research opportunities, tests new ideas and ensures implementation.
- Financial Management
Participates in planning, organizing and coordinating financial policies and practices to control revenues, disburse funds and conserve assets.
Monitors fiscal operations including, fiscal accounting, reporting and control; billing and payroll; third party reimbursement and contracting; regulatory cost reporting, internal auditing and budget coordination and forecasting.
Establishes and standardizes financial management systems to support research financial reporting requirements.
Works directly with the Grants Management Office on negotiating contracts and budgets for new clinical trials.
- Human Resources Management
Directs the implementation of Human Resources plans to achieve strategic goals and objectives including organizational development, recruiting, compensation, training and development, employee engagement and relations.
Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the selection, development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.
- Information Management
- Reviews and directs the planning, design, implementation and support of information systems, networks, and applications to support service line research operations.

- Upholds and communicates the mission, vision and values of the Health System.
- Patient Care Systems
Upholds and promotes value of patient experience by putting the patient first.
Advances a patient-centered approach to care focusing on safety and operational efficiencies.
- Research Compliance Management
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and tax laws, and regulatory agency standards of compliance.
Interprets and standardize fiscal and regulatory reporting standards to ensure compliance with government and regulatory reporting and third-party agencies.
Ensures compliance to established disaster response and recovery plans to ensure patient safety and business continuity.
- Performs related duties, as required.
*ADA Essential Functions
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field, required.
Minimum of eight (8) years progressively responsible senior management experience in related field, required.
Maintains current knowledge of related regulatory agency standards and/or public health law
Extensive knowledge of the health care marketplace, financial analysis, current reimbursement issues, budgets and operating analysis, required.
