The Computerized Physical Fit (CPF) Engineer shall support the Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office Fit and Function group in 3D modeling and scanning of aircraft, weapons and defense related items to support the organization’s modeling and simulation activities. The work performed will be in direct support to the Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office to facilitate aircraft/weapon certifications. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player with excellent communication skills accustomed to software used in the development of 3D solid models. This position will require collaborative work as part of a larger team.
Must be able to work directly with contractor and Government personnel in a mixed badge environment to support aircraft/weapons compatibility certifications.
Create and modify 3D solid models using Siemens NX modeling software. Create and modify complex airfoil and aerodynamic surfaces such as aircraft LOFT surfaces. Create, maintain and modify large assemblies, geometric relationships, constraints and expressions.
Conduct 3D analyses of aircraft and weapon fit both internally carried as well as externally carried. Prepare reports on deviations between scanned vs. constructed 3D solid models.
Document analyses and write justifications to support weapon compatibility.
Participate in scanning of aircraft and weapon systems.
Predict hidden rotation axis determined from scan data of movable surfaces.
Create drawing package for locally manufactured or altered items.
Primary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working experience, internships or graduate research projects that provided experience in 3D modeling aircraft surfaces, gas turbine engine vanes, airfoil sections, control surfaces, or organic 3D complex shapes or related experience
Have commercial or military aircraft mechanical systems experience or knowledge
Experience using reverse engineering tools such as Design X, RapidForm, Cyclone, Faro Scene, Geomagic, or Polyworks is a definite plus.
Advanced thinking and problem solving ability
3D space awareness to visualize placement of scanner to optimize data gathered
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience operating in Windows using the Office software
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Very good attention to detail and a candidate who takes ownership and pride in all work
Strong analytical and organizational skills
May be required to work around live weapons
Travel may be up to 20%
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
3-8+ years of NX experience desired
Security Clearance Requirements
Per contract requirements, must be a US Citizen, as you must be able to obtain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance.
