About the Job
Responsible and accountable for the day to day supervision and performance of Horizon’s Central Distribution Center (CDC) assigned operations and staff including materials management, staff training, development and management, customer relations, logistics, transportation and safety. Plan and supervise daily activities of assigned staff for the receiving, storage, fulfillment, and delivery of products and execution of services to Horizon’s customers and branches. Assist with the development and administer continuous improvement programs and make recommendations for opportunities to improve customer service, operational efficiency, and expense control. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and the safety of CDC personnel and materials. This is a second shift position.
Provide supervision for all assigned areas and processes of Horizon’s warehousing and distribution functions associated with the Central Distribution Center and staff including receiving, pulling, packing, shipping and returns. Assist with the development and administration of staffing plans, workload and daily task balancing, monitor employee and process metrics and logistics plans, resolve discrepancies and problems to exceed internal and external customer requirements.
Monitor work processes, reports, Total Warehouse Logistics (TWL) system and physical locations for discrepancies, inconsistencies in standard operating procedure and results and facilitate resolution. Work closely with multiple internal departments, systems and resources to reconcile discrepancies, resolve problems and troubleshoot processes and outcomes.
May assist with negotiations and contractual agreements and CDC vendor performance feedback for all delivery and logistics throughout Horizon. May include negotiation and contractual agreements for Horizon truck leases, local courier agreements, small package carrier and LTL for the CDC and branch delivery functions.
Integrate Horizon’s Warehouse Management System and processes with Horizon’s supply chain to minimize total system cost while providing inventory accuracy and superior customer service. Collaborate with internal customers to implement continuous improvement methodology; measure and analyze key performance indicators and CDC metrics to drive cost optimization while maintaining quality customer service.
May assist with negotiations and procurement for assigned CDC equipment, services and supplies. Manage assigned company assets that may include facilities, inventories, material and equipment. Maintain safety and housekeeping standards. Ensure equipment, building, and racking systems are maintained for safe, efficient use.
Assist with the development and implementation of CDC budgets within goals; including staffing plans and utilization, logistics and transportation, equipment and supplies.
Assist with warehouse layout, racking and set-up, product locations, staging, return and wire cut areas and pipe storage.
Responsible for staffing needs identification/clarification, hiring, training, evaluation and development of staff. Responsible for compensation recommendations for staff within assigned groups.
Assess staff/department needs, identify and provide/coordinate skills and mutually beneficial personal development training for staff; assess training effectiveness and provide supplemental coaching.
Monitor, prioritize and assign workflow. Develop and track metrics and obtain feedback on performance standards for assigned CDC activities and staff. Address and recognize individual performance as appropriate through individual coaching, development and/or corrective action.
Provide feedback for and assist with implementation of cost saving improvement initiatives.
Aligns work and implement projects to meet strategic goals while balancing overall business implications of decisions; including the development and execution of special projects to improve productivity and customer support.
AA/AS Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a distribution and/or supply chain management, industrial engineering or related field required. Bachelors Degree preferred. At least 3-5 years of experience as a Distribution Center or Warehouse Team Leader or supervisor and previous experience in an automated Central Distribution Center required. Detailed knowledge of distribution center automated systems, processes and planning and scheduling in a high efficiency distribution center environment. Experience in operations management, project management and/or facility operations preferred.
Detailed understanding of safety standards and regulations. Strong knowledge of analytical process control methods and techniques. Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and experience with Total Warehouse Logistics system required. Experience with data analysis tools preferred.
Proven track record with leadership, management and team facilitation, problem solving and employee management and development skills required. Ability to clearly set subordinate’s expectations, coach, train and develop a diverse staff.
Strong communication skills both oral and written. Ability to build and maintain vendor relationships with the ability to determine and negotiate product pricing, and delivery methods required.
Ability to operate mobile warehouse and product picking and transport equipment such as fork truck, pallet jack, order picker/puller, and other material handling equipment required. Ability to gain and maintain required forklift certification and license. Ability to regularly lift 30-75 lbs and up to 100 lbs. with assistance, bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, twist and remain standing for extended periods of time. Ability to work in narrow spaces and at heights of up to 30 feet.
