The Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) will provide complementary therapeutic massage to patients in the Hematology/Oncology unit with acute and chronic pain identified by the hematology/oncology service including Attendings, Fellows and NP/PAs who determine it to be beneficial and safe for the patient. The patient populations in which therapeutic massage may be beneficial include patients with pain as well as those with long hospitalizations and those at the end of life.
The practitioner, in consultation with the massage therapist, will determine if it is safe for the patient to receive therapeutic massage and that there will be no absolute contraindications to therapeutic massage, including the risk of skin breakdown or bruising/bleeding due to skin fragility or low platelets.
Minimum Education: High school/GED. Training at an accredited massage therapy program
Minimum Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a Certified Massage Therapist. Prior experience working with patients in a hospital setting.
Certification Required: Certified by the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and bodywork (NCBTMB) preferred.
Medical Staff Membership Required: Must apply for and be approved as a Massage Therapist, via the Allied Health approval process and must remain in good standing in that category.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced skill in administering manual massage therapy treatments to patients. Advanced knowledge of massage therapy standards, concepts, practices and procedures. Advanced ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters involving diagnosis and treatments. Advanced ability to evaluate information and detect changes in conditions. Ability to interpret information and use it to effectively treat patients/clients. Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others. Ability to plan, prioritize and organize workload.
Technical Knowledge: Prior experience with electronic medical records preferred.

Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs
Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
