Provides oversight to the dental practice of Su Clinica at all sites. Serves as liaison between Administration and Dental. Leads the performance improvement and strategic initiatives as they relate to dental services. Provides dental care services to patients of SC. Provides oversight to the supervision and teaching of dental students, residents, and other allied dental professional students. When assessing the patient, the age of the patient is taken into consideration.
Develops and participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, including identifying opportunities for improvement, meeting the strategic initiatives for dental, implementing and overseeing a peer review system for the Dental Department. Develops and periodically reviews patient care dental policies, and facilitates efficiency in the delivery of dental care. Develops standards for infection control and environmental acceptability of the dental clinic. Participates in the development of staffing patterns appropriate to patient care and clinic administration. Recruits, interviews and recommends new professional staff. Reviews and resolves complaints of dental care delivered by professional staff. Resolves problems in conjunction with the Dental Hygienist/Dental Assistant Supervisor between dental and auxiliary staff.
Performs comprehensive dental evaluations on patients, including but not limited to patient medical history, clinical dental examinations, radiographic and supplemental examinations, diagnostic summary and treatment planning recommendations. Performs dental care on patients including but not limited to priority treatments, disease control, restoration of function and aesthetic, re-evaluation and recall. Records progress notes within a 24-hour period. Follows OSHA guidelines for infection control measures. Provides patient education regarding proper oral hygiene, diet and nutrition. Participates in school screenings and education programs. Assists in the implementation of preventative dental programs.
Teaches dental/oral disorders and disease prevention methods to patients and community members. May teach and supervise dental students, residents, and other allied health professional students. Assesses needs and plans for the training of dental staff in dental care. Abides by Public Health “Philosophy of Care” for dental patients. Abides by established dental protocols of Su Clinica. Acts as a liaison to SC administrative staff, dental staff, medical providers, and dental providers.
Requires dentist to obtain appropriate faculty positions. Develops positive relationships with local dental groups, hospital medical staff, dental societies, and consumer groups. Plans monthly dental staff meeting encouraging staff communication. Presents monthly reports to the Board of Directors.
Evaluates and implements changes in the dental clinic to ensure quality of service to the community. Oversees scheduling policies to ensure optimal productivity. Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CNE attendance, etc.).
Approaches patient care as a team involving clinical and non-clinical staff (eg. Physicians, mid-levels, educators, appointments staff) to achieve patient care objectives. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with clinic leave policy and performs other duties assigned. Responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others. Must always adhere to a professional appearance in dress and behavior/conduct.
Will perform all duties to ensure the patients have a pleasant and satisfactory experience in the manner in which their health care is delivered, managed, coordinated with both internal and external entities and in which the patient participates in the decision making. As a member of the clinical team, this position requires total support to the PCMH principles, policies, and procedures.
