The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced technical professional to work in the Network Engineering Enterprise Systems Engineering (ESE) group within the Information Technology (IT) Department. The successful candidate will work in a technically diverse and dynamic global environment on a variety of multi-classification networks.
Some duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Ensure day-to-day operation and high availability of Wide Area Networks that span redundant data centers and more than 120 geographically separated sites worldwide.
Ensure day-to-day operation of remote site LAN networks.
Implement, optimize, monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity and traffic flow utilizing a multitude of network management and monitoring tools.
Monitor and respond to network outages and service requests to troubleshoot and remediate network issues.
Interface with local and remote site Network Engineers and System Administration teams to design network implementations, optimize traffic flow and troubleshoot server, client and application connectivity problems.
Install, configure, monitor and maintain a Cisco secure network infrastructure requiring high availability.
Support the procurement, installation, maintenance and support of all current and future network expansions and system implementations.
Maintain detailed network configuration documentation and facilitate changes in documentation and network monitoring as devices are added and retired from the network.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years relevant experience
Principal IT Professional:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years relevant experience
Job Preferred Skills
Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCIE strongly preferred.
Experience working with configuration, implementation and troubleshooting of: Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN); Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) implementations; Access Control Lists (ACLs) and/or firewall technologies; Dynamic Multipoint Virtual Private Network (DMVPN) tunneling; Quality of Service (QoS) markings; and various routing protocols, especially Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP), and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
Preferred experience with configuration and deployment of Cisco ASA and Fortinet Firewall platforms.
Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot network problems on a LAN or WAN.
Network monitoring and management experience using SNMP protocol and various Enterprise monitoring suites (i.e., SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM)).
Experience with network management and monitoring tools such as: WireShark, NetQoS, StatSeeker, NetScout, etc.
Familiarity and/or experience working with General Dynamics TACLANE network encryptors.
Security Clearance - Department of Energy.
Ability to configure, maintain and troubleshoot LAN and WAN networks and technologies.
Ability to communicate complex network concepts and issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
