The Salt Lake City Civic Engagement Team is responsible for building the capacity of constituents and the City to engage one another, through stewardship of city values and cultivation of best practices, to achieve our vision for an engaged city – together.
The Salt Lake City Civic Engagement Team is seeking a qualified student intern with an interest in civic engagement and public outreach to assist in designing, executing and evaluating new in-person engagement methods for the City to better connect its constituents to City decision making.
Please note; this is an intern position for college credit only.
TYPICAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
Working in a multi-disciplinary team setting and representing the Civic Engagement Team.Developing outreach materials explaining City projects as assigned. Connecting with business owners, residents, property owners, and others to explain new city projects.Conducting research on engagement projects & policies in other cities; comfort with both telephone interviewing and online information gathering.Assisting in general or project-specific public outreach including outreach booths / tables, public meetings, door-to-door flyers, and web-based information and surveys. Monitoring and/or assessing engagement methods, including reporting.Working with neighborhood and community groups.
Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, although summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution. Two years of undergraduate education (junior or senior status) preferred.
College credit may be available based on the requirements of your school.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
Graphic design or communications, to develop visually attractive materials focused on specific projects. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite desired. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including mapping and simple data editing. Research of a non-academic nature – gathering information from the public sector, the general public, etc.
Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50 pounds. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as appearance of work place, poor ventilation or uneven temperature.Considerable exposure to stressful situations and stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.Non-traditional working hours which may include evenings and weekends.Operates a variety of standard office equipment including a personal computer, copier, telephone based on job assignment may require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
