Sacramento Building & Places is actively seeking a creative, highly talented building civil engineer III for immediate employment in its Sacramento, CA office. The appropriate applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in civil engineer as it applies to vertical structures e.g. buildings, including design, layout, manipulation of grades, utilities, as well as the analysis of zoning and regulatory approval framework of the associated work. Experience with projects that include complicated interface between the building(s) and site is required. Applicants should be comfortable performing work that may include a complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements. Applicant should be competent in all conventional aspects of civil infrastructure design and be able to exercise good judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Applicants should have experience exercising judgment in determining when it may be necessary to modify existing guidelines or devise new approaches to solve unique engineering problems. Applicant should have a minimum of 3 years professional experience specifically working in a design capacity under the supervision of a senior engineer designing civil infrastructure and preparing improvement drawings. Engineers at this level will need to work independently with general guidance and receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform field visits to access existing conditions
Evaluate survey and other civil information supplied by others as to adequacy for use in design
Perform site layout, grading and drainage design
Prepare construction documents - plans and specs for related civil work
Review design solutions prepared by junior staff
Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Prepares technical specification sections.
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Bachelor's degree in Civil engineer or related field
4 years of related experience
Registration as Licensed Engineer
Experience coordinating with other disciplines such as architecture, landscape, and structural as well as researching and understanding applicable codes and standards
LEED qualified professionals preferred
3D modeling experience in Civil 3D desktop or equivalent
Sustainability, resiliency and/or climate adaptation experience a plus but not a requirement
AutoCAD civil production experience
