Our client has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer. The firm provides land development and municipal engineering services, including structural, geotechnical, and construction inspection. As the Civil Engineer you will work under the general supervision of Directors and Managers, who assign project efforts and reviews performances for conforming expectations. You will also perform general engineering work involved in the design, review and inspections of civil engineering and construction projects including obtained through proposal efforts with existing or new clients. Apply Professional Engineer’s license stamp to design drawings or studies when jurisdictions require the certification of submitted documents. Work assignments require proficient working knowledge of construction methods and materials, and inspection techniques associated with the work. The individual is required to visit project sites, interact with agencies, owners, developers and contractors, explain technical requirements or discrepancies, and prepare field reports documenting inspection activities when inspection is required.
Perform engineering computations and prepare engineering plans and specifications for project designs for permit, including computer aided design and drafting. Project designs including but not limited to site layout, storm drainage, roads, utility infrastructure and erosion and sediment control design, light structural designs and small to medium size commercial developments.
Proficient use of AutoCAD (latest versions) or equivalent as required by client.
Calculate project cost estimates for proposal or budgeting efforts.
Conduct research and maintain proficiency on latest codes, standards and regulations applying to specific project scopes.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Valid Texas state driver’s license with a driving record free from serious or frequent violations.
Must be able to communicate, read, write and understand written instructions in English.
Work within established guidelines, policies and procedures.
Regular and punctual attendance per schedule is an essential function.
Elevate concerns or issues to management as they arise from project work with clients or internally.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Requires knowledge of technical engineering design principles, practices, and methods.
Requires knowledge of materials used in the construction trade, and inspection methods and techniques for inspection roles.
Ability to apply and interpret codes, standards and ordinances and resolve field problems.
Ability to read and interpret design drawings, site plans, topography and structural drawings with actual construction.
Ability to comprehend jurisdictional engineering specifications, policies and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of all stages of civil engineer-type construction.
Knowledge of maps, deeds, plats, and plans.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and files.
Ability to communicate effectively with jurisdiction staff, owners, developers, contractors.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and clients.
Ability to adapt to changing conditions and meet work load demands.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; Professional Engineering License in the State of Texas.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in discipline with a good understanding of construction inspection and methods.
Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel.
Make professional presentations to clients for proposal efforts when required.
Ability to work honestly and openly with subordinates and superiors.
Work is largely performed from an office, but may require drive to project sites for review of construction and engineering plans and issues.
