GENERAL DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: The Nutrition Aide ensures that hospital patients receive meals and snacks in compliance with the diet orders written by the physician.
1. Visit patients to answer any questions that they may have as well as explain the Room Service menu if needed.
2.Fills out patient cardex with information such as food allergies, intolerance's and preferences.
3.Discusses dietary modifications with patients and Clinical Dietitians.
4.Takes menu orders from patients and works within their diet restrictions ensuring that no one is overlooked.Reviews each menu for allowed food and portions sizes according to the approved Diet manual.Pre corrects all menus in regards to their various restrictions.
5.Collaborates with the cook to prepares all patient trays, checks all items for correct portion size, accuracy, therapeutic diet requirements, food allergies and completeness.
6.Specifies, prepares, and delivers snacks and nourishments to patients at specified times.
7.Tallies daily meal census and enters monthly meal count.
8.Fills out various diet plans in relation to patient requests and works with them if they are going above their restrictions.
9.Collaborates with the Clinical Dietitian for any food issues with patients and follows the Dietitian's recommendations.

11.Demonstrates good clinical judgment and critical thinking as part of all patient care.
12.Stocks and restocks the patient cooler for items needed during tray line times.
13.Prepares food-drug interactions cards and brings them to the nursing floors.
14.Verifies various information such as diet orders and food allergies in the patient's electronic medical record.
15.Uses a computerized program to calculate a 3 day "calorie count" for patients that are at nutritional risks.

Usually Monday thru Friday with every other weekend required.
EDUCATION SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1.High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
2.No experience required but preferred.
3.Requires verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
4.Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
5.Needs to be proficient with computers and have the ability to learn various computer
6.Requires the ability for minimal accurate mathematic skills (addition/subtractions).
