Operates coating machines that apply coatings to tablets to flavor, color, preserve, add medication, or control disintegrating time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Every operator should have an understanding of the Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.’s) relating to compounding department and compounding equipment; observe the quality and appearance of bulk powders and blended product and bring any discrepancy to the immediate attention of a supervisor; and obtain approval from the supervisor for operating equipment.
- Mixes coating solution according to Master Batch Record.
- Dumps uncoated tablets into rotary pan machines and starts machine.
- Discharges coated tablets into containers specified in Master Batch Records.
- Examines tablets for defects, such as chips and discoloration, and scrapes coating with fingernail to ascertain dryness.
- Divide batch by weight as specified by Master Batch Record.
- Cleans Coating equipment in accordance with appropriate SOP’s.
- Dumps coated tablets and measured amount of liquid wax into pan and starts pan revolving to give tablets final glossy coating.
- Disassembles various parts of coating equipment for cleaning.
- Maintains and stores the parts for the coating equipment.
- Capable of filling out parameters on process sheets.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Ability to fluently read, speak, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide two digit numbers. Ability to multiply by 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American measuring system.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
