The Compliance Specialist – Business Unit is responsible for providing regulatory compliance support by ensuring Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data is tracked and reported in an accurate and timely manner for all originated mortgage and home equity loans. The Compliance Specialist – BU will perform loan-level analyses in determining proper HMDA coding while providing ongoing guidance and feedback to management and staff to reinforce the Credit Union’s HMDA Application and Disposition Procedures.
In this job, you will• Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements. • Research and assist in the analysis and interpretation of industry and HMDA practices as they relate to the Credit Union’s practices. • Perform validations and analysis of HMDA data to ensure compliance with disclosure requirements on cancelled, withdrawn, denied and funded mortgage or home equity applications. • Confirm evidence, as loans are reviewed, that the proper disclosures and notifications were issued, including evidence the member was provided a copy of the completed valuation report, if applicable. • Review loan notes and documentation to verify documentation supports the HMDA action taken. • Perform timely and accurate reviews of the loan data to be populated to the HMDA LAR for submission to the Compliance department. • Work closely with the applicable Compliance Administrators and Corporate Compliance to prepare an accurate and timely response to internal HMDA reviews. • Assist in and review the development and implementation of compliance-related lending practices. • Work closely with department trainers, managers and/or supervisors within and across business lines with key stakeholders to identify compliance issues and/or trends for possible training needs. Assist business units in ensuring training programs satisfactorily address regulatory compliance requirements when necessary. • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in business, or equivalent work or education-related experience. • Minimum two years of experience within the Credit Union or another financial institution working with consumer or mortgage lending compliance related issues. • Maintain and utilize a thorough knowledge of mortgage and home equity lending policies and procedures to determine impact of compliance requirements as they relate to HMDA. • Experience in compliance research and analysis preferred. • Strong research, analytical, problem resolution and negotiating skills. • Strong administrative and organizational skills. • Strong customer focus and strong relationship-building skills. • Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate complex legal and regulatory issues. Ability to provide concise, professional written documentation and recommendations in response to compliance research requests. • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.
