WSP is currently initiating a search for Construction Inspector for our Albuquerque, New Mexico office, for various highway and bridge projects statewide. WSP Inspectors will work on NMDOT highway and bridge projects to augment existing NMDOT project staff.
Projects consist of providing inspection of NMDOT roadway and bridge construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation work. Construction consists of Earthwork, Subgrade Prep, Pavement Sections (HMA or Concrete), Pavement Preservation, Curb & Gutter, Metal Barrier Installation, Concrete Wall Barrier, Bridge, Deck Overlays, Drainage Structures, Drop Inlets, Traffic Control, Permanent Signing and Striping, Sidewalk, Retaining Walls, Drilled Shafts, Erosion Control, Signalization, ITS and Misc Construction.
Description of Duties:
+ Conduct construction inspection and observation of highway and/or bridge construction work for compliance with NMDOT plans, specifications and contract documents; Inspection includes but is not limited to earthwork operations, hot mix asphalt, concrete structures, concrete placements, base course, subgrade preparation, guardrail installation, culverts and drainage structures, curb and cutter, sidewalk, lighting, signals, striping, utilities, and traffic control
+ Interpret plans, specifications and contract documents to verify contract compliance.
+ Prepare daily work reports; prepare and maintain documentation of contractor work performed, materials testing and traffic control based on construction plans and specifications; using SiteManager, spreadsheets, or other electronic or manual means.
+ Perform sampling and testing of concrete in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures
+ Perform moisture/density testing of soils, base course and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures using a portable moisture/density gauge
+ Perform sampling of soils, aggregate and asphaltic materials in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures
+ Prepare and document work item quantities accepted and approved for payment; prepare and report pay quantities, prepare revised structure lists and research project documentation
+ Keep supervisor fully informed of contractor activity; recommend acceptance or rejection of work items; prepare documentation in support of pay applications and change orders
+ Coordinate with the contractor and the project manager to identify and resolve construction issues
+ Maintain positive public relations
+ Verify contractor compliance with safety rules and regulations;

# Job Requirements
+ High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years highway and bridge construction inspection experience
+ Familiar with computers and computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
+ Familiar with AASHTOWare SiteManager Software for construction documentation
+ ATTSA or TTCP Traffic Control Supervisor Certification, TTCP Moisture/Density Gauge Certification, ACI or TTCP Concrete Certification or the ability to become certified within 1 month of hire
