Construction Project Manager/Assistant Project Manager
Channel Building Company is a highly respected commercial construction firm with a strong focus on design-build. We love the work that we do, and we hope that it shows. We’ve been in business for over 50 years and are very fortunate to have an extraordinarily dedicated, hard-working team to collaborate with every day.
We are currently seeking a Project Manager (or Assistant Project Manager depending on level of experience) to help us deliver best-in-class high-end commercial construction projects.
What you’d be doing…
We need someone who can help us with the initial/estimating stages of a project as needed; you’d assist in the projection of budgets, timelines and approaches to possible construction challenges.
Collaborate with site supervisors, carpenters and subs to produce high-quality, cost-effective work. Troubleshoot and provide solutions as issues arise. Ensure job site safety and compliance to building regulations. We are a very flat organization… we see PMs and Supers as two halves of the whole skillset required to deliver complex projects.
Independently and/or in conjunction with the Project Executive, manage the relationship with architects and clients, with frequent job site visits and constant communication about project status and scope/budget changes. Prepare reports and keep project tracking software updated in a timely manner.
Take financial ownership of projects and meticulously track costs, including invoices, change orders, and budget variances.
Monitor and update construction schedules to ensure subcontractors and vendors perform on schedule and within budget.
What you’ve been up to…
You’ve probably got a Bachelors Degree or equivalent and at least 3-5 years recent experience as a Project Manager/APM on commercial projects (not residential) that range in value from 50K – 5M.
Design-Build construction experience is preferred.
You can demonstrate through interviews and references that you have a track record of keeping projects within budget (adjusted for Change Orders), timeframe and project margin requirements and an even better track record of deftly and respectfully handling the inevitable budget overruns.
You may have an Unrestricted Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License.
You have a keen understanding of how to manage projects to keep client satisfaction and good relations with subcontractors… your “emotional intelligence” is off the charts and you probably have decent knack for numbers.
You have a knowledge and curiosity about current and emerging construction practices that keep up with best-in-class solutions, including energy efficient and green approaches.
You have an innate ability to keep track of many, many details at once.
You have some experience with project tracking software (ideally ProCore and Sage 300 CRE), estimating software and strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
You have an open, honest, collaborative communication style.
And most importantly, you have a sincere willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes; a “can-do” attitude at all times.
What to do now…
Well, this is where I have to say we’d strongly prefer to get emails to phone calls. Send along a resume, maybe an introductory email about why you’re looking, what you’re looking for… nothing too fussy. Communicate with us like you’d communicate with a client you enjoy working with. We take the work very seriously we do NOT take ourselves that seriously. We work hard, but we have fun doing it.
Hoping to find someone who can help us take this firm to the next level. We’ve got an opportunity to do something special and we’re looking for some fantastic people to join the team.
