These positions support the agency's COVID-19 response by supporting public health emergency preparedness and response activities. This work supports the agency's Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The **Laboratory Technician 1**positions support the work of the scientists of the COVID-19 Response team at the Washington State Public Health Laboratories (PHL). The PHL provides analyses critical for the COVID-19 pandemic. These positions accession, inventory, prepare and recycle the resources needed by the scientists for their work. These positions also perform basic tasks in the preparation and analysis of samples in the laboratories, and to help with reporting and filing of the results of the analyses.
The Washington State Public Health Laboratories (PHL)****provide diagnostic and analytical services for the assessment and surveillance of infectious, communicable, genetic, and chronic diseases and environmental health concerns. Primary clients of PHL services include preventive medicine programs at the state, county and federal level, hospitals, public health and medical laboratories seeking reference or consultation services, and physicians seeking assistance in diagnosing rare or unusual diseases.
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Laboratory Technician 1 positions. These positions are all project positions and are funded by the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant. These project positions are anticipated to be funded for 15 to 30 months.
The salary listed includes the 5% premium pay for the duty station being located in King County.

**Required Qualifications**
* One (1) or more quarters/semesters of coursework; **AND**laboratory work performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.
**OR**
* Six (6) or more months of work experience performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.
**AND**
* Demonstrated experience using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.

**Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions**

* Work in a Laboratory environment. All work activities will be conducted at the Public Health Laboratories, located in Shoreline, Washington.
* Work with mice and other laboratory animals.
* Undergo vaccinations for laboratory contaminants as determined and required by management.
* Work with infectious specimens and samples.
* Participate as part of the DOH emergency response team during health emergencies and training events.
* Stand or sit for long periods of time.
* Work at a computer for extended periods.
* Work in Biosafety level 2 spaces with full personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, double gloving, front gowns, etc.
* Work a 40 hour work week that is assigned by the supervisor. Work schedules and hours of work will be assigned by the supervisor. Schedule and assigned hours may include weekends, nights, and holidays.
* Work outside of assigned core work hours on short notice in response to outbreaks and emergency response.
* Legally operate a state or privately owned vehicle for occasional pickup and delivery.
* Properly use and wear routine lab equipment including PPEs (gloves, eye protection, coat/gowns, respirators), BSCs, Centrifuges, pipettes. Supplies, tools, and equipment will be provided by PHL.
* Move packages or materials up to 40 lbs.
