Essential Job Duties:
The Dairy Education Coordinator has the overall responsibility of managing and supervising all aspects of the public education program at the 300 acre Lake Wheeler Dairy Farm complex. The complex consists of the Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum, a 6.5 acre bio-secure visitors zone within the farm, the Dairy Education Center and Creamery which serve as the main collection point for farm education and tourism groups and the retail operation for Howling Cow ice cream and dairy products. The Dairy Education Coordinator shall report directly to the Director of the Dairy Enterprise System and be responsible for developing educational programs for target groups such as 4-H, FFA, Extension, Public, Private and Home Schools, similar youth associations as well as general public programs. This position will be responsible for the tourism and creamery operation including multiple personnel consisting of tour guides, volunteers, service providers, retail creamery personnel and student labor. This coordinator will oversee compliance and necessary documentation of regulatory, university, college and departmental requirements including but not limited to accounting, personnel / HR duties, budgeting, purchasing, forecasting, oversight of computer and communication systems and ensure proper training of employees.
Provide oversight of museum and retail ice cream operations within the Dairy Farm complex.
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Departmental Required Skills:
* Experience must be related to dairy farm operations and/or technology, dairy product-related food science experience or agricultural education with general public in animal agriculture field. * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
* Graduation from a four year college or university in Animal Science, Food Science or Agricultural Education or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. * Knowledge and/or experience in the dairy processing and agritourism industry.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:
A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained. This position will be a major link to dairy industry and agricultural education partners. There will be demands for immediate travel with last minute notification and deadlines.
About the Department/Unit:
The Dairy Enterprise System is a commodity-based operational unit within the Dept of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences consisting of the Lake Wheeler Dairy Farm, the Feldmeier Dairy Processing Lab and the Dairy Education Center located at the entrance of the Dairy Farm. The individual units participate in Teaching, Research, Extension of dairy sciences and technology encompassing the production farm and dairy processing facility. Outreach to the general public is accomplished through the Dairy Education Center where all components of dairy are highlighted as an educational tool for university students and all aspects of the general population.
