Seeking multiple experienced dental assistant I or IIs to to join the outpatient float pool, as a per diem. Candidate in this position will help to support staffing needs in the UNC Hospitals Dental Clinic. This is a per diem position. Applicant must be experienced and have demonstrated ability to review the patient's medical record prior to treatment, and to take accurate vital signs.
Dental assistant must be able to prepare operatory and instruments for routine dental procedures, including exam, surgery, restorative and endodontic (pulpotomy) as well as trauma (splinting).
Dental assistant must be able to perform correct procedures for cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments (cleaning, preparation, and use of autoclave and dry heat). Dental assistant must be able to expose radiographs of good diagnostic quality at least 90 percent of the time.
Successful candidate must be a strong team player with the ability to multitask. Excellent customer service a must. At least two (2) years of experience as a dental assistant working with special needs patients preferred. Ability to multitask and excellent customer service a must. Per diem coverage needs include daytime shifts (Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5 pm), as well as night, weekend and holiday call and coverage. Applicants should be prepared to identify which hours they would be prepared to work and cover if they are the selected.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
A thorough knowledge of dental assisting practice. Ability to prepare and sterilize instruments in a timely manner. Ability to explain procedures and present ideas in a clear, concise, organized manner.
Graduation from an approved dental assistant course (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
If graduation from an approved dental assistant course: No prior experience required.
If High School diploma or GED: One (1) year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant.
