DENTAL ASSISTANT (PER DIEM) - FLOAT POOL at UNC Health Care

Seeking an experienced Dental Assistant II to join the outpatient float pool, as a per diem. Candidate in this position will help to support staffing needs in the UNC Hospitals Dental Clinic. Applicant must be experienced and have demonstrated ability to prepare operatory and instruments for routine dental procedures, including exam, surgery, restorative and trauma (splinting).

Minimum Requirements:

Dental Assistant certification, or as required by state.

Minimum two (2) years experience as a Dental Assistant.

Current radiography certification required.

Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.

Current certification to monitor Nitrous Oxide preferred.

Applicant must be able to strictly maintain sterilization and infection prevention processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Applicant must be able to perform correct procedures for cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments (cleaning, preparation, and use of autoclave and dry heat). Applicant must be able to expose radiographs of good diagnostic quality at least 90 percent of the time.

A successful candidate must be a strong team player with the ability to multitask. Excellent customer service is a must. At least two (2) years of experience as a dental assistant working with special needs patients is preferred.

Per Diem coverage needs primarily include on-call nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants should be prepared to identify which hours they would be prepared to work and cover if they are selected.

Graduation from an approved dental assistant course (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

If graduation from an approved dental assistant course: No prior experience required.

If High School diploma or GED: One (1) year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant.
