Position Summary:
The Deputy Director is primarily responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations and delivery of care in the dental clinic in Bethel. Provides clinical guidance to the staff dentists. Provides direct clinical services to patients. Coordinates administrative functions performed by the staff dentists, including peer review, village travel, provider orientation, externs, and residency programs. Maintains or coordinates first point-of-contact for new provider recruiting. Assures prescription drug and agent security. Assures clinic emergency preparedness. Assists the Dental Service Chief in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the operations of the YKHC Dental Program in Bethel, sub-regional clinics, and surrounding villages.
Position Qualifications:
DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the commission on Dental Accreditation of the ADA. Completion of a post-doctoral dental residency program preferred.
One year clinical experience as a dentist. Direct supervisory experience in some capacity. Two years cross-cultural dental public health experience preferred, in Alaska is most relevant, ideally in the YK region.
Current Alaska dental license, or from any state if a commissioned officer. Credentials as necessary for appointment to the Medical Staff of YKHC as a dentist.
Dental equipment and instruments.
General dentistry, and clinical administrative/supervisory knowledge and/or training.
Supervise dental assistants chairside and in village clinics. Lead and supervise other staff dentists. Act as Dental Service Chief in his/her absence.
