Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Integrates automated solutions in collaboration with internal customers including Software Developers, Software Quality Assurance personnel, Information Systems Security staff, and Network & Technical Service teams to identify opportunities to automate complex and repetitive tasks to create secure, scalable software systems.
Crosses and merges the barriers that exist between software development, testing and operations teams and keep existing networks in mind as they design, plan, and test.
Evaluates existing automation applications and platforms, and makes recommendations for enhancing performance via gap analysis, identifying the most practical alternative solutions, and assisting with modifications.
Applying DevOps principles, collaborates with IS security team to ensure quality releases in testing and deploying software; uses proactive security measures to enhance the organization's infrastructure security protocols. Assures new environments meet requirements and conform to best practices.
Develops new tools and resources, and maintains existing tools for software deployment, platform monitoring, and operations.
Establishes and maintains Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and other relevant metrics to gauge the status of DevOps efforts in our systems and environments.
Configures, documents, optimizes, and supports the automation of infrastructure components. Helps create requirements and procedures for implementing automation of routine maintenance. Troubleshoots existing automation of information systems for errors; resolves errors.
Provides direct support during various operations such as deployment and general production.
Actively researches and evaluates technology trends for applicability in order to stay relevant with DevOps best practices.
Identifies and confers with stakeholders to remediate risks within the Information Systems Division through the use of best practice processes and technologies. Conserves and preserves existing resources by fostering symbiotic interdepartmental cooperation and workflows through the use of technology automation as a force multiplier.
Embraces the concept of security first by including security at the onset of all automation and integration activities by building secure software protected against hackers and viruses.
Sets standard operating procedures through the creation and maintenance of detailed documentation describing information technology automation across the organization.
Develops, maintains, and regularly reports on system metrics to gauge the efficiency of automation efforts.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Source Control and Continuous Integration/CD Tools - position requires extensive understanding and utilization of source control tools to ensure safe and efficient versioning within complex environments.
Team Management Tools - DevOps Engineer needs to use one or more team management tools in order to stay in sync with tools, techniques, and methods the teams use.
