Purpose: This position, acting as a Digital Learning Coach for the Kentucky School for the Blind and the Kentucky Schools for the Deaf and reporting to the Associate Commissioner, will support on-going digital learning and technology integration coaching. The individual will coordinate implementation project work and be responsive to new and emerging statewide and school district needs. This request is for a Project Manager; however, this leader will fill the role of a valuable team member and ongoing program management for our state-wide KETS Master Planning for digital learning. This specialist will coordinate with operational and instructional leaders (from respective teams and schools) to ensure the work continues to mature to meet the ever-changing learning (including digital learning) needs of K-12.
Description:
- Provide leadership and support to the staff and students of the Kentucky School for the Blind and the Kentucky School for the Deaf in accordance with the Kentucky Department of Education's vision, mission and goals;
- (Focus Area) K-12 Digital Learning Coach:
- Work closely with OET leadership, OSEEL leadership, the DTC/CIO and the school principals to implement and help share the vision of how technology will be implemented in learning, communication, and independence development.
- Assists teachers in maximizing the effective use of technology for learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students.
- Provide a vital real-time professional learning role for each building within the KSB and the KSD, customized digital learning strategies tied to structured learning experience design, digital workflow, digital relationship, digital collaboration and student-design digital products. All of which are tied to remote and distance learning.
- Always looking for the latest insights and strategies on instructional technologies, personalized learning materials and pedagogical methods to mentor and coach educators in their district - providing seamless movement between blended (traditional and digital) designs.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of the latest Assistive and Adaptive Technologies and provide on-going training for staff and students
- Assist with accessibility and equitable access (equitable access means more than simply providing devices and connectivity. It also means giving every student the opportunity to learn from teachers who understand how to use technology to both enhance learning and create quality learning experiences for students with special needs.)
- Provide professional learning for teachers working with students who are auditorily or visually exceptional.
- Provide professional learning on accommodations for blind and deaf learners.
- Developing and coordinating professional learning;
- Increasing access to personalized, rigorous learning experiences, providing timely assistance and leadership to school districts to improve their ability to:
- Identify and address digital readiness needs, including devices, access to digital content libraries, Internet connectivity, student digital products, and related network security and infrastructure and data security
- Use technology (digital tools and resources), consistent with universal design for learning, to support the learning needs of each and every student including students with disabilities and English language learners, who are auditorily or visually exceptional and building capacity for principals and other school and district leaders to support teachers
- Implementation of anytime, anywhere access strategy development, including student and teacher digital workflow and digital relationship strategies, digital collaboration, and digital instructional design.
- Providing support at the Kentucky Schools for the Blind and the Kentucky School for the Deaf to expand access to new and emerging high-quality learning opportunities.
- Developing or utilizing strategies for delivering specialized or rigorous academic courses and curricula through technology.
- Disseminating promising practices related to technology instruction, student data security, and the implementation of new tools and applications.
- Providing teachers and paraprofessionals, special instructional support while also providing administrators with the skills and knowledge to use technology resources effectively, including (activities to support) effective integration of technology to improve instruction and student achievement.
- Client, adapt, and share relevant high-quality educational resources
- Use technology effectively in the classroom; including administering computer-based assessments and blended learning strategies
- Implement and support school and district-wide approaches for using technology to: inform instruction, support teacher collaboration, personalize learning, and to improve academic achievement
- Procurement guidance on devices, equipment, and software applications in order to address digital readiness, unmet need and shortfalls. Developing or utilizing effective or innovative strategies for the delivery of specialized or rigorous academic courses and curricula through the use of technology, including digital learning technologies and assistive technology.
- Carrying out blended learning projects, which may include:
- Planning activities including development of new instructional models (e.g. blended learning technology software and platforms), the purchase of digital instructional resources and initial and
- ongoing PD activities,
- Ongoing PD for teachers, principals, other school leaders, designed to support digital implementation, adoption, and learning success.
- Providing students with the strategies to take advantage of high quality digital learning experiences and digital resources,
- Assist in the study of the educational impact of students' access to digital learning resources (both in school and out-of-school), include the following elements:
- Analyze student digital learning habits and resources, including the types and locations of technologies and devices students use for learning outside the classroom;
- Identify the barriers students face in accessing digital learning inside and outside the classroom;
- Describe the challenges facing students who lack home Internet access (including challenges related to participation and engagement both inside and outside the traditional classroom);
- Determine how these barriers impact educators' instructional practices;
- Describe how state and school district resources further address students' lack of access to digital resources outside the classroom.
- This position will utilize a time tracking tool to accurately record work effort against current processes in a timely and consistent manner. This position may require periodic on-call duty outside normal business hours to ensure that the supported systems are operating as intended and time sensitive deliverables are addressed. The on-call duties will be defined at the discretion of the client manager and/or the on-call policy for the organization.
