The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks a visionary and broadly skilled human resources executive with substantial leadership experience for the position of Director of Human Resources and Payroll. The position provides effective leadership in ensuring that all of the appropriate Human Resources and Payroll functions are available and effectively take place for the institution. The main campus is in Martin, TN, with centers in Jackson, Parsons, Ripley, Selmer, and Somerville, Tennessee. The director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and collaborates with the Office of Equity and Diversity, as well as other campus stakeholder groups including faculty, staff, and students.
Responsibilities
•Serves as the Human Resources Officer of the university and has overall responsibility for the vision, strategy, and implementation of all human resources services, policies and initiatives for the campus.
•Responsible for employee relations, payroll, benefits, employee training, records, compensation, and employment.
•Provides strategic leadership to anticipate, identify, analyze, and balance institutional and employee needs.
•Works with employees and managers to resolve conflicts
•Responsible for ensuring these activities are in compliance with UT System personnel policies and procedures and with state, federal, and other sponsoring agency regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Master’s degree with concentration in human resources, business or public administration with seven years of progressively-responsible experience in human resources or related field
•Demonstrated experience in leading and managing human resource functions, including employee recruitment and retention, performance and evaluation planning, employee relations, payroll and benefits, compensation plans, and employee training
•Proficiency in computerized employment records and payroll system
•Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills
•Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and present information to a broad range of people.
•Demonstrated service orientation and proactive in providing service and support to campus stakeholders
•Working knowledge and ability to interpret and apply polices and guidelines of federal and state laws and regulations including EEO, AA, and ADA.
•Proven track record of being energetic, forward thinking and creative and able to challenge assumptions while providing best in class Human Resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience working in human resource management and supervision in a higher education
•Professional certification in human resources such as SPHR and SHRM-SCP
•Strong working knowledge and experience working with SAP computer application
