The Emergency Management (EM) Recovery Specialists will serve on the Recovery Team and will fulfill a number of duties associated with the federal public assistance and hazard mitigation programs. The positions assist local governments recover from man-made, technological, and natural disasters, and, to mitigate the effects of disasters on communities and the general public. The Recovery Specialists will interact with individuals state-wide, including state, local and federal officials, including elected and appointed officials, tribes, and members of the public. These positions work under the direct supervision of Recovery Unit Supervisors, but will also work closely with the State Public Assistance Officer (SPAO) and State Hazard Mitigation Officer (SHMO) in administering the federal Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation programs for open disasters and participating in other disaster response operations. These positions will assist the EM Section Manager and other Recovery staff in working with sub-recipients in previous disasters to audit their completed projects before reimbursement is disbursed. The work performed by these positions enables state, county and local governments to improve their emergency management capabilities and enables the Recovery Section, on behalf of the governments and citizens of the state, to obtain disaster assistance when their own resources have been exhausted. Recommending appropriate courses of action to management will be an ongoing responsibility of these positions. These positions are entry-level professional positions within the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
