The City of Manassas is looking for a qualified individual to serve as an engineer for the Engineering Department. Under the guidance and oversight of senior engineering staff, this individual performs professional level engineering functions in support of various City transportation improvement projects, including, but not limited to, engineering plan review (private and public projects); engineering design and analysis; preparation of construction documents; and construction contract management and inspection.
The HIRING RANGE for this position is: $62,067.20 - $82,201.60/DOQ
Under the guidance and oversight of senior engineering staff, develops design and construction scope of work; develops concept, preliminary and final engineering plans for transportation related City projects including road improvements, sidewalks and trails. Using AutoCAD software prepares designs that meet defined objectives, priorities, budgets and deadlines, as well as applicable federal, state and City laws, regulations, standards and policies.
Reviews plans submitted by Architectural and Engineering (A&E) firms for City projects to determine compliance with design requirements and operational needs; budget and schedule; and compliance with federal, state and City laws, regulations, standards and policies.
Performs review of civil engineering aspects for private site development plans to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and City laws, ordinances, regulations, and standards. Evaluates and assesses the impact of the private development projects with regards to construction and installation of City infrastructure, traffic & transportation, drainage and storm water run-off, hydrology & hydraulics, grading, erosion and sediment control, and related issues. Works with consultants to resolve comments and issues.
Represents the City in meetings and various forums regarding private development and City projects. Discusses issues with citizens, developers, engineering consultants, and other city/state agencies to achieve understanding and consensus on all issues raised; presents the department's views on proposed development projects.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required supplemented by a minimum of one year of civil engineering experience, preferably in public transportation and utilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license and certification as an Engineer-in-Training.
