Primary Objective of Position:
To organize and manage design engineering resources, systems, processes, and functions: (1) New Product Development (NPD), (2) Custom Solutions, (3) Sustaining Engineering, (4) Engineering Laboratories (Test & Evaluation) so as to provide a constant stream of products, technical specifications, and documentation which will enable the manufacture, sale, service and continuous improvement of Precision Fluid Control (PFC), AGI product lines to meet the needs and expectations of customers.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Manage Train and Provide Leadership - Lead and manage by facilitating a team based approach, open communication, involvement, development of training requirements and continuous improvement. Provides feedback on individual performance and assists the functional design groups and people in setting and achieving challenging goals.
Technical Assistance - Ensure that department personnel provide technical assistance with respect to product design, application, and service to other departments, customers and suppliers. This assistance includes timely communication of new releases and changes to engineering documentation as well as daily interface with "product teams" and as needed support. Provide technical assistance for customers by encouraging and promoting active, direct involvement with our engineers.
Manage Department - Prepare and manage to establish Key Initiatives, plans and operating budget. Develop and monitor key measures which provide performance feedback relative to the achievement of Key Initiatives and department effectiveness.
Global Teamwork ?Actively promotes a cross functional international approach to design work. Works with other sites to ensures that design resources are assigned, prioritized, and utilized on a global basis based on the scope and return of the project. Assigns senior experienced engineers to serve as mentors with junior engineers in other world areas. Ensures training, required skill development, and understanding of key pressure control technologies are transferred to all world area engineering sites.
Manage Engineering Processes - Ensure that process (e.g., engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, etc.) outputs meet all known safety, design, and quality requirements defined by customers and PFCs quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001, etc.). Works with other Site Engineering Managers and the Director of Engineering to ensure harmonization and standardization of design engineering systems, processes, and documentation. Supports development, maintenance, and control of a Global Design Manual and supporting training materials to ensure global consistency in PFCs design approach and practices.
Manage New Product Development (NPD) and Custom Solutions - Ensures that resources, systems, and processes are in place to maintain a constant stream of new and custom products for identified markets and customers. Maintains awareness of schedules, project key drivers, monitors progress, removes roadblocks, and helps resolve conflicts to effectively meet project completion objectives established by division management. Innovation is promoted and assured through seeking patents on new designs. In addition, the impact of product development on the business is measured and reported in conjunction with Marketing and Sales.
Manage Sustaining Engineering ? Ensures that resources, systems, and processes are in place to maintain and improve existing products based on customer and manufacturing feedback and data. Pursues product improvement projects as directed by Marketing, Operations, and/or Quality. Provides support to Operations as required to maintain viability of current product lines.
Manage Design Support Functions (Model Shop & Engineering Laboratories) ? Ensure that design systems, processes, equipment, and facilities are in place to support safe rapid development, verification, and validation of new designs as well as improvements to existing designs. Ensure that resources are available to support (1) new product development, (2) custom solutions, and (3) Sustaining Engineering. Coordinates resources and their utilization on a global basis ensuring proper deployment and efficiency of available capacity.
Validation Process - Manage processes that measure product performance, assure ongoing safety, and continuous improvement. These processes include Assembly/Test, Repair, and Laboratory observations and feedback. Data from these sources is used to examine and improve products and processes. Ensures that cross functional design review are conducted with other world engineering sites to facilitate transfer of design skills and to ensure design oversight.
Continuing Education - Preserve professional and technical competence by pursuing related continuing education.
Provide Environmental, Safety, & Health Leadership -Provide effective leadership in promoting environmental, safety, and health initiatives through positive reinforcement of safe behavior. Deliver clear direction to ensure employees are working safely by consistently and fairly enforcing environmental, safety, and health policies and work instructions.
Create and Maintain a Customer Focused Culture - Improve processes to increase customer loyalty by actively understanding, implementing and advancing the Perfect Execution tools.
Apparent or Assigned - Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
